    Kudos for balls

    Just posted by the NYT:

Navy Is Said to Proceed With Disciplinary Plans Against Edward Gallagher

Top military officials threatened to resign or be fired if their plans to remove Chief Gallagher from the SEALs were halted by President Trump, administration officials said.

The secretary of the Navy and the admiral who leads the SEALs have threatened to resign or be fired if plans to expel a commando from the elite unit in a war crimes case are halted by President Trump, administration officials said Saturday.

The Navy is proceeding with the disciplinary plans against the commando, Chief Petty Officer Edward Gallagher, who counts Mr. Trump as one of his most vocal supporters. After reversing a demotion in recent days, the president suggested on Thursday that he would intervene again in the case, saying that the sailor should remain in the unit.

The threats by the Navy secretary, Richard V. Spencer, and the commander, Rear Adm. Collin Green, are a rare instance of pushback against Mr. Trump from members of the Defense Department. Defense Secretary Mark T. Esper and Gen. Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, scrambled to come up with a face-saving compromise this past week in the hope that Mr. Trump could be persuaded to change his mind.

This is a real test for the C-I-C. I have heard that these carreer guys don't like their orders being questioned. Especially by someone who hasn't paid their dues.

Wrong Joe, if the NYT says it's true especially considering how accurate their reporting has been regarding Trump, well then it's damn well true. Fall in line.

The Navy has paused a review to determine whether to remove SEAL Eddie Gallagher's Trident pin following his highly publicized war crimes case. President Trump demanded the halt on Thursday.

    [snip]

Rear Adm. Charlie Brown, a top Navy spokesman, told Fox News that the Navy would be halting the review.

"The Navy follows the lawful orders of the president. We will do so in case of an order to stop the administrative review of SOC Gallagher's professional qualification. We are aware of the president's tweet and we are awaiting further guidance," Brown said.

So sad Dave will cling to his Northeastern liberal news sources till the cows come home and come here and lecture us for not being enlightened enough to believe them.

You might want to hold off on your jubilation boys:

    Extract from this morning's NYT:

The high-level pushback to Mr. Trump’s unambiguous assertion on Twitter this past week that the commando, Chief Petty Officer Edward Gallagher, should remain in the unit was an extraordinary development in what was already an extraordinary case, one with few precedents in the history of presidential relations with the American military.

The Navy secretary, Richard V. Spencer, later denied that he had threatened to resign but said disciplinary plans against Chief Gallagher would proceed because he did not consider Mr. Trump’s statement on Twitter to be a formal order. Mr. Spencer added that the president, as commander in chief, had the authority to intervene and that it would stop “the process.”

I do not see how Gallagher could possibly ever reasonably function as an effective field seal again even if the president exercised his prerogative and reinstated him in his old job. He has lost confidence of both his command and his men, it seems from what I read.

The childish glee exhibit by some here was premature.

This is taken from this morning's WSJ:

Trump to Allow Internal Review of Navy SEAL Case
After friction between the president and military, a peer-review board will take up the case of Chief Petty Officer Edward Gallagher

    By Gordon Lubold and
    Nancy A. Youssef
    Nov. 24, 2019 7:45 am ET

WASHINGTON—President Trump has given the go-ahead to the Navy to conduct an internal review of the case against a disgraced Navy SEAL that has created high-level friction between the president and the Pentagon.

Mr. Trump is allowing the Navy to convene a peer-review board to determine whether Chief Petty Officer Edward Gallagher will remain in the elite unit, military officials said. The Navy got word late Friday, officials said, that Mr. Trump would allow it to continue to adjudicate the matter. The board will be the Navy’s final say on the fate of Chief Gallagher, who was cleared of more serious war crimes that took place in Iraq but found guilty of dishonoring his service by posing for a picture with a dead militant.

Clearly trump wanted to avoid embarrassment.

I suspect those of us who remember the My Lai Massacre want nothing to do with this incident being wiped "clean".

    Joe's comments above are accurate.

The “glee” above had nothing to do with Gallagher, Dave, it was that The Paper Of Record in their eagerness to gig their nemesis, President Donald J. Trump, screwed up once again. The Times wrote that the Secretary of the Navy threatened to quit over a policy difference with the president. He did not. Have they issued a retraction yet, btw? This is getting embarrassing.

It did nothing of the kind---but getting you to admit that would be about as likely as you seeing trump for what he is
