I guess a course in remedial reading is a bit late for your education.

    From your OP—
...The secretary of the Navy and the admiral who leads the SEALs have threatened to resign or be fired if plans to expel a commando from the elite unit in a war crimes case are halted by President Trump, administration officials said Saturday...

Oh please my good sir---do you really believe that trump is incapable of staring into the mouth of a lion and not throwing a bone?

He managed to dance out of a position between a rock and a hard place.

This from one more source---they are not all wrong my dear sir.

Dave, maybe we are arguing different things here. The last link you posted says SECNAV disagrees with the president, but makes no mention of resigning or being fired. In fact, SECNAV and the admiral have both disagreed with the president, but both deny having ever threatened to resign.

So, if your argument is that they disagree with the president, then we have no argument.

I think it goes further than that---I think the story changed to allow trump to save face by suffering a public show-down.

I think you've got a good read on this one, Joe. These men are the best of the best. They must fully trust each other in daily life or death situations. If they don't, missions may fail and participants die.

Obviously, I'm not considering politics here. This is simply about the effectiveness and safety of the unit.

He doesn't have to be deployed ever again. There are other ways to use him, his training, his skills and his mistakes. Someone has to train the new guys and keep the old hands current and ready to go. Gallagher has experience, both good and bad, he can teach the others. He can teach them what to expect when deployed from his first hand experience and he can teach them what not to do also from his first hand mistakes. Sounds like a way for everyone to save face without compromising operations.

Isnt Gallagher retiring in a few days? The act of stripping him of his trident and rank will result in a substantial decrease in his retirement.

The White House has backed down. Looks like this will all go away and soon I hope.

    Breaking news!

    SECNAV fired this afternoon.

    Gallagher to keep Trident pin.

Interesting story of deception and deceit by SECNAV

Just saw that seems he broke the chain of command.
