    Any Smokers Here?

Here’s a pair of lungs from a 52 year-old smoker who died of the effects of his habit —

When I met my wife I was smoking about 10 cigarettes a day. However, she said I'd have to quit - and I did. Bless her.

    Nice work, Joe.

I quit a four pack a day Lucky Strike habit 42 years ago...I occasionally crave a good cigar, but I manage to resist......Ben

About the only difference to you Ben, it has been 47 years since quitting. I was a switch hitter between Lucky Strikes and Pall Malls, plus pipes and cigars---all inhaled.

One thing that surprised me after stopping was that I had a "discomfort" in my chest---that started to go away after a relatively short time. I never knew that feeling as anything but normal

I am going to guess that it was at least 20 years until the urge to smoke didn't rear it's head on a regular basis--mostly after eating or having a drink.

Today, I am not only repulsed by the smell, but in a very short time my sinuses close up.

I enjoy a good cigar on occasions but not often.

Ahhh… yes, smell. I noticed an improvement after I stopped smoking. Now, when first introduced to people, I can tell if they smoke or not. If they smell like an ashtray, they smoke a lot.

On a parallel note, I'm not sure I can smell if someone vapes or not.

When I quit they were 35¢ a pack in the machines...I haven't even seen a cigarette machine in decades, do they still have them?...Maybe they're located next to the phone booths...In a museum......Ben

They can still be found in casinos.

This morning as I entered my normal breakfast spot I noticed a new sign----No Smoking---No Vaping. That is the first time that I have seen that.

The increasing number of deaths related to vaping is becoming national news. Lungs are being coated with oils rather than tar but, the result is the same and may in some cases be even worse. The oil accumulates much faster than the tar deposits.

I'm a babe in the woods on the subject of vaping, but it sounds like something to avoid at all costs......Ben
