    Clemency For Military Members

President Trump has granted clemency to two Army officers accused or convicted of war crimes and restored Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher to the rank of chief petty officer after he was docked a pay grade after being convicted of posing for a photo with a dead Islamic State (ISIS) fighter, the White House announced Friday.
Army 1st Lt. Clint Lorance could be released from the military prison at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, as soon as Friday evening, six years after being found guilty of second-degree murder. Maj. Matt Golsteyn, a former Green Beret, will have the murder charge against him dropped.

"Some of these soldiers are people that have fought hard and long," said the president. "You know, we teach them how to be great fighters, and then when they fight sometimes they get really treated very unfairly."
LINK...I took the quote from a source long branded as left leaning, but this particular article seems neutral...To the President's simplistic yet inferential statement implying the difficulty in making combat decisions based on peacetime rulings, I would add that it might be further stressed in military training courses that those decisions can and will be reviewed by authorities far removed from an active field of battle...I would add that no fewer than half of those whose duty it is to review such actions should have substantial battle experience in their own records...I have none in my own, but I support the President's actions in these three cases......Ben

In Eddy Gallagher case.. he was not found guilty of the more serious charges.. his conviction is for an offense that by itself was not a court marshal offense.

The entire case has me baffled. Chief Gallagher was doing what he thought was his job.

Easy to lose sight of what these boys are going thru in the moment from here in the stands. While the game is always deadly serious, I have reason to believe the intensity changes when a team member goes down. My point is that its a testament to our boys that they do as well as they do when they meet hell in person.

Thank goodness that isn't the prerequisite for pardons and clemency requests and such.
