Ahhh… yes. The Bonnie and Clyde death car. My father and I saw it years ago when it was displayed at the Valley Fair Mall in West Valley, Utah.

For those who've seen the movie "Bonnie and Clyde," Clyde makes it out of the car and is riddled with bullets in front of Bonnie. In real life, neither made it out of the car. They both died where they sat, with multiple body wounds and both were shot in the head as well. It was a sure kill led by retired Texas Ranger - Captain Frank Hamer - who used a BAR, like Clyde did. Photos of the dead bodies are online, taken at the morgue, for those who can stomach them.

I was always a fan of the same sidearm Frank Hamer carried, a Colt 1911 Government model in .38 Super...If only I had been able to keep a few of the ones that crossed my path...The Remington Model 8 in .25 Remington was said to be his favorite go-to rifle, but I see why he chose the BAR on that particular day...He also didn't believe in giving a dangerous armed criminal like Barrow or his ilk the chance for a first shot...His preference was to open fire from ambush in those cases...That's why he outlived so many men he was sent to fetch......Ben

Captain Frank Hamer was a good man, Ben. It's so fulfilling to see his name, rather than just that of Bonnie & Clyde, when great Texans are mentioned.

I found this article about him...The source may be canted slightly in favor of those who are proficient with firearms, but it's still interesting reading......Ben

I knew a few Texas Rangers back in the day, and they all reminded me of the stories of Hamer and the other “one riot, one ranger” kind of guys. I have heard that has changed with the times though.
