Oops, Another Health Axiom Shot To Hell?

Remember how high cholesterol, especially the LDL kind, is supposed to be bad for your longevity? Studies are putting the kibosh on that —

I've always had high LDL levels. Not extreme but high enough that my doctor prescribed me a Statin a few years ago but told me not to take it. He said he was only prescribing it to cover his ass....

My doctor prescribed Vitorin for my cholesterol, and when my insurance disappeared along with my second wife, he kept me going with samples until the generic Simvastatin went on the market...I can afford it...My cholesterol levels have been favorable with both the real thing and the generic......Ben

Since the American stinker is not high on my trusted source list I went off to find collaboration--which I did--and interestingly enough at the conclusion of this article in "Medical News" they make their own disclosure statement regarding the authors

People should make an informed decision

Study co-author Prof. David Diamond, of the University of Southern Florida in Tampa, comments on the findings, saying, "There have been decades of research designed to deceive the public and physicians into believing that LDL causes heart disease, when in fact, it doesn't."

"The research that has targeted LDL is terribly flawed," he goes on to explain. "Not only is there a lack of evidence of causal link between LDL and heart disease, the statistical approach statin advocates have used to demonstrate benefits has been deceptive."

The researchers aim "to share this information with people, so they can make an informed decision when they're considering taking cholesterol lowering medication."

In the paper, the authors disclose that Dr. Ravnskov — along with a few other co-authors — have previously published books that criticize the idea that LDL cholesterol causes heart disease.

Dr. Ravnskov is the director of The International Network of Cholesterol Skeptics, and in 2007, he was awarded the Leo-Huss-Walin Prize for Independent Thinking.
Seems interesting that they---who ever they is---keeps lowering the recommended max.

In the interest of full disclosure, I too take a statin.

I would find another doctor. At very least for a second opinion.

Good to know as high cholesterol levels run in my family.

Now, when Joe can demonstrate drinking alcohol is good for you, my life will be full.

Yea darn it!I haven't had a drink in 26 years and I still want one every day. I'm living with a woman that drinks a quart a day, that doesn't help but still.
