    Doral is out

    ...trump must be getting nervous

“In the law, there’s a canon that says, avoid the appearance of impropriety,” Representative Francis Rooney, Republican of Florida, told reporters on Friday, adding, “I think that would be better if he would not use his hotel for this kind of stuff.”

Former White House officials expressed shock that Mr. Trump would consider hosting an event that would enrich his family, and suggested that the choice would also pose immediate ethical concerns for the world leaders invited to the summit.

“The appearance of impropriety and self-enrichment will likely be troubling to at least some G7 leaders,” said Daniel M. Price, who helped organize the summits for President George W. Bush. “If I were still the U.S. sherpa and the president was invited to attend a summit at a business resort owned by the foreign leader host, my first question would be to White House counsel about whether ethics rules would permit the president to attend.”
To claim Doral would do this at cost and not enrich trump is insulting. June is slow (I have stayed there prior to trump) and there is a lot of fixed overhead not being covered---but that overhead would have been "billable" even if the "at cost" promise were covered.

In addition, there would be any number of unofficial hangers on that would patronize the facility--including the restaurant where a continental breakfast is $22.

To propose such a thing, shows how out of touch trump is with any sense of ethical limits---even forgetting the potential illegality.

Incredible pettiness in even caring where this meaningless crap takes place. OMG, Trump may make some incidental profit from a meeting! Even worse, his property may gain some leftover glow from biggies having been there. Will that somehow change or influence his policies? Well, no, but that makes no difference because he will profit and profit is evil in and of itself..can’t you ignorant proletariats see that? If Lefties had their way the mere idea of profit would be evil and no person who ever made any would ever be a leader. We would be stuck with the usual dregs as president...and like it. The proof of that is their most sacred icon is some worthless toady, Barack Obama, who never produced anything of value in his life, but is sucking off the ex-President moniker tit for all it’s worth. It’s A-OK to profit if you are “ex-president,” but a crime while president. No businessman - especially a successful one - need apply for president, only blood-sucking lifetime politicians. Great, we get it now.

The most sorrowful part of your response Joe, is that if this were being proposed by one of those dreadful Democrats you would lead the parade of the offended righteous and irate.

I'm not sure how you work the inconstancy out in your own mind

You should be ashamed, Dave, you are a capitalist. Profit is a wonderful thing, and if there is no loser, a beautiful thing. If Trump were to make a profit of such a meeting, where is the loser in the deal?

I am a capitalist, but before that I am a human being and one who tries to practice a strong ethical and moral code--and I find no conflict in doing that. I will not ever surrender my ethics or moral code to the pressure of profit.

Simply the appearance of this deal is ethically abhorrent and likely illegal, I'm sorry you seem unable to see that.

This man's only code of conduct is to do what benefits donald trump.

I will say again, if this were a Democrat you would be beating your drum of foul play----and I'd be cheering you on, now I find my head is bowed.

Kind of reminds me of the vacations some president(s) got run over the coals for. Depending on the party you were either for or against it.

    This idea just sucks.
