Dr. Michael Mann, the purveyor of the most outrageous science hoax since the infamous Piltdown Man (which shares many of the same characteristics as this one), sued another scientist, Dr. Tim Ball, for criticizing his infamous “Hockey Stick” graph, when he (Ball) said the Penn State climate scientist “belongs in the state pen, not Penn. State” for his science transgressions. Mann’s suit was thrown out of court, when he refused to disclose any backup data used to invent his graph. After twenty years of demands and lawsuits to see the data by numerous skeptics and even the Virginia (where Mann first composed his hoax with state funds) Attorney General, Mann has uniformly refused to reveal his data.

In Canada, where the suit against Canadian Ball occurred, the court has the discretion to award attorneys’ fees to the winner, which it apparently did in favor of Ball.

A similar suit Mann has filed against writer Mark Steyn has dragged on for a decade here in the U.S. despite Steyn’s attempts to get it to trial every way he can.
