    Recession or not????

A few a voicing the opinion we are headed for a recession. Your thoughts?

Trump is becoming increasingly nervous that the end of an 11-year expansion could scupper his hopes of a second term and is going on the attack as ill omens and recent stock market slumps haunt the global economy. https://www.cnn.com/2019/08/19/polit...war/index.html

I have to admit that trump has changed my mind in how much influence a president could have on the economy--- he has demonstrated a much greater influence than I would have expected. He will do everything he can to put off a recession before the next election--we will see how it turns out.

Said another way the Democrats along with their partners in the media will do everything they can possibly do to urge and support a recession.

As I accused here some time ago, Trump’s opponents desperately desire a contraction, if not an outright recession, to enhance their chances of replacing their nemesis. Bill Maher has openly made it his theme, where other likeminded “progressives” will not admit it. Hell, Lizzie Warren has made it here campaign theme! An axiom: if the economy is thriving the incumbent president wins. The Democrats and Never-Trumpers need an economic reversal more than anything, so much so they are willing to invite and encourage one.

With the economy, expectation can be a self-fulfilling prophecy, so if enough people want and expect a downturn, it could happen from that alone. As we know, the economic cycle is a cycle, so that is a factor.

Trump has made a calculated gamble on several fronts with the economy, not the least of which are tariffs, especially as confrontation with the Red Chinese. Many of us think it had to be done regardless of consequences, but many others including hard-right Wall Street types have been in opposition. Anything disrupting their game is viewed as an offense. Trump is the disrupting factor in almost everything. He collects enemies like a mud tire through a swamp collects goo.

Yes sir, and it is one of the few things trump does the old fashioned way---he earns each and every one.

U.S. created 500,000 fewer jobs since 2018 than previously reported, new figures show

Hiring doesn’t appear to have gotten big boost from Trump tax cuts

    Bloomberg News/Landov
Looking for help? Retail stores aren’t hiring a lot of people these days as online rivals eat into sales. The U.S. government on Wednesday said the economy added 501,000 fewer jobs than initially reported.
Turns out hiring wasn’t nearly as strong in 2018 and early 2019 as the government initially reported — by about a half-million jobs.

The economy had about 501,000 fewer jobs as of March 2019 than the Bureau of Labor Statistics initially calculated in its survey of business establishments. That’s the largest revision since the waning stages of the Great Recession in 2009.

The newly revised figures indicate the economy didn’t get a huge boost last year from President Trump’s tax cuts and higher federal spending. They also signal the economy is a bit weaker than previously believed and could give the Federal Reserve even greater reason to cut interest rates in September.
