Gots me a question. A friend was looking for a bit of discussion about many things. I guess he tried to enlist in our little group and was rebuffed. The system said Registration was disabled.

Are we now a closed group ?.

That is just temporary due to a bunch of folks mostly in China trying to take the site down. I think that problem has been resolved for now. Tell your friend that I will reopen the site for new registrations tomorrow. We can always use new friends here.

New registrations are now enabled. Anyone who wants to join our little group is welcome to do so. Due to the problems we've had with spammers, the path to registration will now require moderator's approval before posting is permitted. This not meant to discourage new members, but is a method to try and limit spammers and ne'er-do-wells.

Okay, since several of us might be considered ne'er-do-wells I'll let that part slide for now.

Wouldn't you know, as I was typing this message a Russian tried to register. I have nothing against a Russian joining, but my experience over the last 18 years has been they are never legit.

And now, Ukraine has joined the Russian requesting membership. Methinks that would be a match made in hell and it is not going to happen.

If anyone who is a legitimate human and has honorable intentions is having trouble registering, let me know. I guess we better leave out the honorable intentions part too. We don't want to further confuse Truckman.

Okay, I just managed to lose a really long post about new registrations. Y'all are probably lucky not to have to read it!

So, I will try to be more concise on this attempt.

For the past few weeks new registrations were not allowed due to spammers and trolls. I thought we had that under control so I opened the site up for new registrations.

Obviously, that didn't work because we have once again been deluged by spammers and worse.

So, I have turned off new registrations again. I don't want to be a closed forum, that is not good for any of us. I would really like to have new members that can contribute to the site. So, if you have a friend or acquaintance your think would be a good fit here let me know either by PM or on the forums and I will get them registered.

I have been on sites which use methods to distinguish between humans and bots. Perhaps those are too expensive or perhaps the malign interlopers are real humans after all. The ‘net is a cesspool.
