    Thieves...

When I picked up my laundry yesterday, my credit card was declined...They said they'd been having trouble processing cards that day, so I used another card and it worked fine...As usual when I got home I logged into my online banking to verify the card, and found it had been blocked...There was also a pending charge for $0.00 to Lyft, a taxi company...I called the 800 number and the guy said thay had locked my card because somebody had been using the number on what they recognized as fraudulent charges, including a $345.00 charge online...I don't know how they know what is legit and what isn't, but he said they would issue a new card immediately, and my old one was shut down permanently...

I had just used it to order a new lightbar for my truck from Advance Auto, so he made sure that one would be honored, but no other charges...I'll have to wait for my new card before I push any more buttons at Amazon, but I'm grateful that my bank has their eyes open, and they are able to spot theft before it happens...I have no idea how they do it, and I doubt if they want to talk about it...It'll be a little inconvenient for a few days, but I've learned to live with inconvenience...

    I truly hate thieves......Ben

Well---I guess I have been in the bucket with less honorable men! They got me as well---and within the last few minutes I found they got me once again

Recounting the last few months, in late March my wife had her Chase card stolen in Paris---so that ended that one. Then about 6 weeks ago Chase called me to report that someone had tried to access the account---so there went the second one Then last week, I saw 3 or 4 charges from PayPal. I asked my wife and she wasn't responsible, then I went to PayPal---and the charges did not show up at PayPal I called chase and there went #3--I am still waiting for the new cards.

Then this morning I was reviewing charges on my Capital One card---and here comes PayPal again----and once again no charges show on PayPal. So I am now about to call Capital One---and then I am going to PayPal and close that account

Like Ben and Dave, I've had the stolen credit card thing happen to me as well. I was impressed by how the banks involved shut things down - particularly when it could have gone badly.

Like "safe" people do, I check my banks and credit cards daily. It really does not take long if you're used to doing it. I'll recommend others do the same.

I do the same thing, sometimes a few times a day if I'm expecting a charge, or a credit...I've never used Paypal, I had always heard it was ripe for fraud...Yesterday I first thought why didn't they call me, or email me when this occurred?...Then I thought about all the scam emails and phone calls that are so prevalent, and I would have probably either dismissed the email to spam or just not answered the phone number I didn't recognize...They did it right, and good on 'em...

When I checked this morning, all charges and credits on that account had been cleared, probably already on my new account, and the account is marked "blocked"...As long as they transfer my accrued points to the new card, I'm OK...I use certain cards for certain purchases...I have one that pays 3% for groceries, one for fuel at 3% and one for medical expenses at 3%...I've had my Discover Card for 33 years and the only thing I use it for is whatever category they're paying 5% on for this quarter...Everything else I used my now-cancelled card for at 2%...There is no annual fee with any of them, and I pay off the balance each month so there is never an interest charge...I get paid for spending whatever I was going to spend anyway...

I've got the same six dollars in my pocket right now that I had when I quit buying lottery tickets in January......Ben

Anytime there is a $0.00 test transaction the algorithm will trigger an alert.

If you ever find a credit card go to a gas station and see if it works, if so, fill your truck and then go to Best Buy and purchase a big screen TV. After that, ditch the card because it will be blocked.

I had a fraudulent charge to my bank through Pay Pal a few months ago on my old account I had not used in years, which I caught and got Pay Pal to rectify, but had trouble closing out the account. I could not find a place on their page to do that and ultimately had to email them to get it done.

Right...I'll just hold my hand over my face so they won't figure out who I am on the security video playback...

There is one bright side to this...I started de-badging my truck this morning, and the old credit card makes a dandy scraper to get the two-sided tape off the paint without hurting it...I'm using Goo Gone, so I didn't know how that stuff would affect the credit card, now it doesn't matter......Ben
