When I was growing up in the 50’s-60’s, we often had large static displays of tanks and military equipment from nearby Ft. Hood at events. We were actually allowed to climb into the beasts. I loved it. I doubt the folks will get that close to the M1A1’s.

The fireworks are being touted as enormous. Wish I could be there watching. Funny thing about fireworks displays...as soon as they are over, the experience is gone...puff. It’s a momentary thing. It’s like yesterday’s pain...as soon as it is over you can remember having it but can’t really recapture the experience.

I was against trashing the streets with tanks, but after that fear was put to rest I’m ok with some bucks to celebrate the founding of the greatest country in the world.

It isn't the country that is being celebrated.

Some don't even like him to leave the White House, so weep and moan he displayed a tank in his front yard.

Of course it is. Just because Trump occupies your mind don’t think he does with everyone else.

John Adams on Day Of Independence —

It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.

personally the last thing I would ever do on the fourth is sit inside my house watch the idiot box and the talking heads. We shut the downtown to cars and have an all day street festival and at sundown they launch a spectacular fireworks display from the roof of the downtown parking garage. It's our party without any political bull****.

Same thing in my town but the thread is in politics some folks want to make it about politics frankly I don't understand why anybody gives one crap in hell what Trump does on the 4th of July but apparently it bothers folks. At the time all that crap is happening in Washington I'll be in my Pontoon Boat watching a great local firework show

And where in that does it mention VIP seating & Reserved seating to be "sold" to the financial supporters of trump?
And where does it say it should include a political speech and be less for the celebration of the forth than the massaging of the king's ego?

I have no objection with the words of John Adams---I do object to the dog and pony show being contrived by and for the benefit of trump--at our expense.

Not to upset you, but the "us", is a distinct minority.

Just for giggles---this from News Week:

'SICK OF USING US AS PROPS': VETERAN CALLS TRUMP'S JULY 4 MILITARY-STYLE CELEBRATION 'INSANELY INAPPROPRIATE'

Veterans have spoken out against President Donald Trump's "A Salute to America" July 4 celebration employing tanks and fighter jets as wrongfully using military equipment as "props" and as absolutely and insanely inappropriate.

Trump is being criticized for ordering a military-style celebration with stationed tanks on display and Air Force One and Blue Angels flyovers while he delivers a speech at Lincoln Memorial in the evening.

Having military personnel transport tanks from distant bases to Washington, D.C., over Fourth of July week is "insanely inappropriate," Marine Corps veteran Kyle Bibby told Newsweek on Wednesday, "And flies in the face of everything that I understood about training as Marines."

"We just don't do that," Bibby, 33, said. "We just don't do parades, there's no tactical training value in that."

Bibby, who was a captain and had a deployment in Afghanistan in 2010, acknowledged that military equipment is used for events like Fleet Week "but it's never about an individual person, they don't have a political party handing out tickets."

Trump's celebration is public but the Republican National Committee received prime seating tickets to pass out, turning it into a campaign rally of sorts.

"A lot of veterans are just really sick of it, they're sick of using us as props and using all of our equipment for them to just look tough, even if they themselves are draft dodgers," Bibby said, taking a jab at Trump, who received a bone spurs diagnosis and was exempt from serving in the Vietnam War.

That's hilarious one quote from one veteran who obviously has TDS and you are making the implication that he speaks for all. What a joke. You have made your position clear about Trump many, many, many , many , many times. We got it. Ok. That's why I generally don't post up here anymore since everyone knows where I stand on Trump and frankly I am of the opinion that they don't want to hear it incessantly.
