I am the NRA - Or So I Thought!

I received a letter from the NRA today. It was from Wayne LaPierre begging me to upgrade my membership status. The upgrade would be at a huge discount, only $350.00 rather than the normal cost of $1,500.00. He will even throw in a range bag valued at $79.00 if I act now. I guess that was so he could continue his extravagant lifestyle at our expense.

After a (very) few seconds of deliberation I have decided to use the postage paid envelope to send our friend Wayne a personal message. I will send him a letter telling him that upon his resignation from the NRA I will upgrade my membership at the full cost of $1,500.00. I don't expect it will cost me anything because he is there to get every last cent he can from the once proud NRA.

Oh! I almost forgot! I got a message from Ammoland.com this afternoon. It is titled "I am the NRA - Or So I Thought. The same as the title of this post. I just solidified my intent to return the pre-paid envelope with my letter.

Greed subsumes good intentions. Just look at the televangelists. Too bad the NRA is falling to the same problem.

The cost to me to upgrade my Lifetime NRA Membership to Endowment Member was $1500.00...I paid it out over time...That was sometime in the 80's...I don't believe I've sent them a nickel since then, and considering the behavior of LaPierre, I don't regret that...I still believe in the original intent of the NRA founders, and when LaPierre is gone, I may donate some more...But not before......Ben

I have ignored all attempts to get me to upgrade from life to endowment---and I remain steadfast in that decision. Wayne DePew will be the downfall of the NRA

From this morning's briefing in the NYT:

Change at the N.R.A.: The National Rifle Association has shut down production at NRATV and severed all business with its estranged advertising firm. The move comes after two prominent N.R.A. board members criticized NRATV in an article in The Times in March.

As most here remember, I am not a fan of the NRA. But, I do not rejoice in the organizations' struggles. I belonged to the Junior NRA as a child and met some great people at their activities. And, I learned how to shoot along the way.

I've seen the NRA move on through many issues through the years. And, it would not surprise me at all if the NRA comes out of this stronger than ever.

I tend to agree with your assessment of their future--despite my earlier comments. Any large organization has "mass" and that "mass" generates enough energy to carry it over the bad spots for some amount of time.

I do believe that De Pew is damaging the NRA and needs to go.

I have been receiving multiple emails from Cox over the last few months---he left the house yesterday. I have no idea what that might portend.
