    Impressive Performance

    My Lexus just pased 100000 miles on Monday. Today the original brake pads were replaced at 100060 miles. They could have gone another 10k or so. Very impressed so much so that I went back with OEM Lexus pads.

    My brake pads and shoes always seemed to outlast everyone else's, I think because of the way I drive...I tend to plan my stops and coast when I can, rather than use my foot...It seems to irritate those behind me, but that's their problem...I still see a lot of drivers who drive around with their foot riding the brake and lighting up the brake light...Just more work for their mechanics if they can afford it...

    I looked at the brake pads on all four corners when I was putting new wheels and tires on the mighty Dodge/Cummins recently...From my memory of days as a mechanic they had the appearance and color of OEM, but I bought this one used so can't verify that...At any rate they looked to have maybe half the material worn down, and the rotors were all unscored...If that's accurate it confirms the mostly highway use this one had by its previous owner...There were 145,000 miles on the odometer when I bought it, and the CarFax verified it was accurate...The exhaust brake on this one works like a champ, so I leave it on all the time...I think it helps a lot......Ben

    That's what I do with my diesel - why use the regular brakes when it has an efficient and effective exhaust brake?

    80% of my driving is on the interstate where I barely ever use the brakes.

    That was my thought also...In addition, using the exhaust brake keeps the variable vanes on your turbocharger moving, and less likely to collect coking deposits......Ben

    120K on original pads and 60K so far on the second pair.....

    I piss off the people behind me as well when I coast between red lights.

    One strange thing, my rear brake (driver side) has been squealing for about the last 5K. My mechanic checked them out and pronounced them good. No clue why the squeal...

    Likely hard spots in the brake lining...They get that way from use...If it gets to be unbearable, take the rotors off and put a non-directional finish on them with a Scotchpad and a sidegrinder...Use a grindstone to put a 30° to 45° angle on the corners of the pads, paint them with anti-squeal compound and re-install...No more squeal...I used to charge two hours labor for the 20 minutes it took to do this...Never had a complaint......Ben
