Robert E. Lee statue for sale by Dallas draws $1.4M bid

I like this resolution of the issue. The Civil War (if there is such a thing as a "civil" war) is painful enough without further losses. And, there's something to be said for preserving history.

"The artwork, depicting Lee and another soldier on horses, was unveiled in 1936. Dallas required a minimum bid of $450,000, which was the cost to remove the statue from a park in September 2017 and for storage."

The statue should never have been removed. I'm sick and tired of revisionist history.

No revisionism here. General Lee was a great man and a greater enemy.

"Robert Edward Lee was an American and Confederate soldier, best known as a commander of the Confederate States Army. He commanded the Army of Northern Virginia in the American Civil War from 1862 until his surrender in 1865. A son of Revolutionary War officer Henry "Light Horse Harry" Lee III, Lee was a top graduate of the United States Military Academy and an exceptional officer and military engineer in the United States Army for 32 years. During this time, he served throughout the United States, distinguished himself during the Mexican–American War, and served as Superintendent of the United States Military Academy."

A famous Robert E. Lee quote shows where he stood on slavery:

"So far from engaging in a war to perpetuate slavery, I am rejoiced that slavery is abolished. I believe it will be greatly for the interests of the South. So fully am I satisfied of this, as regards Virginia especially, that I would cheerfully have lost all I have lost by the war, and have suffered all I have suffered, to have this object attained."

Yet they still took down the statue in an effort to remove him from history. There is talk of erasing Thomas Jefferson because he was a slave owner. I guess George Washington will be next. Where does it stop?
