    Australia Had An Election

...and the pollsters had another spectacular faceplant. The party on the right there, the Liberal/National Party, was projected to lose by every poll, while the party on the left, the Labor Party, was informed by the polls that they would regain control of Parliament and Prime Minister. The Labor Party ran chiefly on its version of The Green New Deal with fears of climate change and promises of new taxes. They even imported algore to come pump his spiel. Maybe that was the kiss of death because they lost and are now going nuts ala their counterparts here when they lost unexpectedly in 2016.

And, we will do well, Billy.

For, Australia is seeing the results of Democracy. As do we. We may well complain, yet the result is that same. Their Democracy, and ours, will survive these minor blips of history.

2016, elites have cast the result as a failure of conservative voters to understand what’s good for them
Yep tell me I'm an idiot and don't know what's good for me, then ask me to vote for you!

One difference between the polls getting it dead wrong in the U.S. and in Australia is that here the polls excuse themselves because we never know if those polled will be voting or not, but in Australia voting is mandatory on pain of fine, so it is rational to think enough of those polled did not answer the pollsters honestly just like here. There is something about people not wanting to admit they like conservatives, but vote that way anyway. Their polls all consistently for several years have posted results that the Labor Party would win handily. The bookmakers there, where wagering on elections is legal, gauged their odds accordingly in line with the polls and lost their collective asses. Schadenfreude!

I realize this does not "fit" the agenda of this thread but it deserves to be read.

Looking for facts in that fantasy is frustrating.

...Last year, researchers Tom Sear and Michael Jensen published a report for The Conversation finding that around 5000 of the tweets published by accounts operated by Russia’s Internet Research Agency mentioned Australia, MH17, or the Australian politics hashtag #AusPol.

The activity involving Australia increased when our government responded to the downing of MH17 and once again when Australian fighter aircraft were flying over Syria...
If that can be substituted for evidence of evidence of Russian interference in Australia’s election, then this puny call to fear might have some legs, but try as I did that was all I could find. This mirrors the same kind of push to try to find actual interference in our election from the tiny $110M Facebook advertising buys from Russian affiliates that were aimed at Blue States anyway. Much adieu about nothing.

While keeping ones head in the sand might be comforting the Russians are at the same game now in the European Union Parliamentary elections.
I don't give a damn about trump, I do care about organized fake news to sow discord and distrust.
