    Offy ruled Indycar racing and midget racers for a number of years...I used to read about them in my hot rod magazines...I've still got a lot of those magazines too, but I never heard of anyone putting one on the street...

    The engine that always fascinated me was the Novi V-8 that Andy Granatelli sponsored in his 4WD racecars...They were supercharged, with dual overhead cams on each bank, and also built by Fred Offenhauser...As originally built they made about 450 HP in the early '40's, but Granatelli bumped them up over 800...His cars just couldn't be made to control that much power though, and with 4WD, they shredded R/F tires......Ben

    Personally I think the new Dodge HD trucks are a work of art... Not sure how they perform or last but they sure do appeal to me.

    I love my 2.8 liter Duramax diesel Colorado Z71. I bought it for the MPG, and it delivers.

    Wifey and I drive it between our houses in SLC and Las Vegas. We fill It up with diesel in SLC, drive it to Las Vegas, and then fill it up a second time in Cedar City on the way home. Keeping the cruise control at 80 MPG, it gets 31 MPG - and 682 miles per 22-gallon tank. And, that's in real-world math, simply dividing miles by gallons of fuel used. The thing has little HP (about 160) but major torque (about 360 ft lbs). It does not downshift, even on the steepest canyons.

    Have never even heard of one much less seen one until now. SWEET! I just looked it up, it's 181 horsepower, I've got you beat by nine horses on my 94 Ford and forty on torque and it's a full size! Trade ya? I'll take the lesser truck, even if it is a Chevy.

    Psst! Mike...Even if Hunter doesn't take the suckerbait, you can get an additional $2250.00 off the retail price at the Chevy dealer this month...And what GM dealer wouldn't jump at the chance to add a classic Ford to its used car inventory?...The offer is only good to current GM owners, but all you need is the title to any GM in the wrecking yard, right?......Ben

    Right now, I think if I was in the market for a new truck, just something to get the groceries with as a second vehicle, and if it didn't have to be diesel or HD, I would consider the Ram Classic...You get last year's body styling in a full size half ton beginning at $27,395 MSRP, less whatever you can talk your dealer into......Ben

    I guess if I had the money I'd buy a new one but those days are long gone. I've only got 235,000 miles on the Ford guess I'll keep it for a while more. Wish I got 31 MPG though.

    A Psalm of Life

    Tell me not, in mournful numbers,
    Life is but an empty dream!—
    For the soul is dead that slumbers,
    And things are not what they seem.

    Life is real! Life is earnest!
    And the grave is not its goal;
    Dust thou art, to dust returnest,
    Was not spoken of the soul.

    Not enjoyment, and not sorrow,
    Is our destined end or way;
    But to act, that each to-morrow
    Find us farther than to-day.

    Art is long, and Time is fleeting,
    And our hearts, though stout and brave,
    Still, like muffled drums, are beating
    Funeral marches to the grave.

    In the world's broad field of battle,
    In the bivouac of Life,
    Be not like dumb, driven cattle!
    Be a hero in the strife!

    Trust no Future, howe'er pleasant!
    Let the dead Past bury its dead!
    Act,—act in the living Present!
    Heart within, and God o'erhead!

    Lives of great men all remind us
    We can make our lives sublime,
    And, departing, leave behind us
    Footprints on the sands of time;

    Footprints, that perhaps another,
    Sailing o'er life's solemn main,
    A forlorn and shipwrecked brother,
    Seeing, shall take heart again.

    Let us, then, be up and doing,
    With a heart for any fate;
    Still achieving, still pursuing,
    Learn to labor and to wait.

    Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
    Fred

    "Everyday I beat my own previous record for number of consecutive days I've
    stayed alive."

    'Take care of yourself, and each other.'

    Ahhh… yes.

    Consider though, that diesel here in Utah is about 15 cents more per gallon than regular gas.

    It appears that the 2020 GM HD truck owners will finally get the option of Power Take Off...The catch is that you must order the L5P Duramax diesel and the 10 speed automatic transmission (branded Allison, but built by GM)...In addition, it's only available as an option in the lower trim levels such as the Work Truck...

    Ram owners have long had the option, and with the availability of either right or left side mounting on the transmission to suit particular applications...Ford owners have also had the option for a while, but without the ambidextrous choice...Both Ford and Ram offerings are available with gas or diesel engines...It's good that GM is finally making the attempt to catch up in technology for its customers......Ben

    EDIT: It appears GM also forces its customers to accept a 3:42 rear gear ratio with the PTO, reducing the truck's pulling power...

    On the other end of the power scale, some prefer the minimalist approach...But even though it's a Dodge (sort of), it ain't diesel, so I wouldn't be interested...From the comment section:
    So he built a Ridgeline?
    Maybe I need to go shopping at Harbor Freight since I have this 20% off coupon......Ben
