    Sorry gals and guys

$231,602.85 yes, that is $231,602.85, the cost from the hospital for my recent heart device and surgery. Not the doctors or any of the peripheral professionals that get to weigh in---just the hospital.

To be sure---and this should make you feel better---Medicare did not pay $1,364.00---that was paid by my insurance

I'm almost embarrassed ----but I'll manage

This pushes me up close to being a million dollar man for this year

Yep, those medical costs are way up there.

I think I related a few weeks ago that my recent motorcycle "event" incurred medical costs of $1.2 million. My wife was able to use her knowledge of government processes to wrangle our out of pocket costs to about $2,000. She primarily succeeded because she was able to get Utah's state system to treat my case as a "test" of the system. This past year, major insurance carriers invited both of us to present our case in open forums. Frankly, I think the carriers were using us as an example of what NOT to allow patients to claim against them. In other words, we went up against the system and won - when we should have lost.

In the end, Dave, it's you that matters - not the amount of money spent on saving your life. Make the most of it while you can. More and more, I realize just how fragile life is.

My adventure in the fall was greatly aided by my wife's experience with managing insurance companies. I don't even get involved, I hand mailings to her and walk away. The sad part is that not many people have the luxury afforded us by our wives and their experience--and they can get stuck in and by the system.

The above bill frankly shocked me, that amount is about equal to the cost of being in ICU for two weeks in the fall---in this case I was in the hospital for two days!

Not to brag the hospital sent it's bill for the knee surgery. If I had to pay it $77,000, insurance $25,000 my share was a discounted $900.00 since I prepaid the hospital before i was admitted. Best money I spent this year.

Hate to see the bill for the 2 kidney stones I got weeks after leaving the hospital.

I was going to do with out from today to December when I get Medicare. But while talking to the financial advisor and told him what I had in mind, he looked at me and said "be careful". I'm going to be doing remodeling work, taking the boat out and camping in the desert before it would kick in. I'm going to do the Cobra thing in between.

I think I mentioned in another thread my recent 8 hour outpatient insertion of 2 heart stents netted the hospital and attendant physicians ~$180,000.

I haven't received my surgery bill yet but the ER trip two days prior came to $7,900 . Xrays. CT scan, 4mg of morphene, plaster splint and a podiatrist doing a fracture reduction. My portion came to $150. I can only imagine what the surgery to install the plate and screws plus the followup visits will run
