    Why

How does this make somebody feel proud or jubilant or just anything.

Because its the biggest one. Except it sorta isnt. Its number 50 or 60 in B&C or somewhere thereabouts. Its not for everyone.

This reminds me of one of my Alaskan trips. I had taken a particularly nice bull caribou and opted to take the rack home with me on the plane.

In the Anchorage airport I was continually congratulated on this rack, many of which came from women. I should add that I had cooked caribou every night after the kill while still out on the tundra. The remaining meat came back with us to Lake Clark and I gave it to the native people there---they were grateful to get it.

When I got into Newark airport I picked up my rack in baggage and went out on the curb to wait for my wife---who had brought a truck. I was treated with an almost endless barrage of derogatory comments by passers by, mostly women but a man or two as well.

Then on the way home a few truckers who could clearly see what was in the bed showed their approval.

It is just a difference in perspective---and allowance for a different belief. Most people that dislike hunting are simply uninformed (or misinformed) of the facts.

Added in edit: As Joe mentioned, moose is delicious, and impressive just by its size. Mine occupies the place of honor---right between an exceptional mule deer and my caribou---while looking across to the far wall and staring at my 5 x 7 elk
