    “Seattle Is Dying”

The soft underbelly of Seattle - and many other seemingly prosperous cities - is being eaten away by the cancer of heroin and meth —

My niece and nephew are doctors in Seattle. What they wanted most this year has happened - the rains have returned.

I'm not making light of the drug issues there. For, we face the same burdens here in Utah. Mostly because of opiates, we're seeing far too many people dying young.

I don't know anywhere in this country that has not been invaded by this epidemic.

While that is true, I think the flotsam from the epidemic cluster in certain places, which choose to foster & fund the phenomenon. For instance, while I am certain the drug wave is here in San Antonio, I have seen no indication of filthy homeless camps here. Why stay here, when they can go someplace where welfare is so much better to support a habit? “Build it and they will come.”

Dying maybe to strong but what I do know is that Seattle is losing convention business at an alarming rate. I have friends who live in the suburbs who tell me they don't even think about going to the city because of the cesspool it has become because of the local governments inaction or inability to deal with the drug and homeless crisis.

Seattle and Portland... And pretty much the whole Cascadia coast are on borrowed time. When the Cascadia subduction zone ruptures, the resulting earthquake will have a massive underwater vertical component. The quake will be bad enough, but it will be followed roughly 5 minutes later by a 200 foot high tsunami.

They have the little roped off areas for the junkies. And there are a lot of them. Its repulsive and heartbreaking at the same time. The locals dont even seem to notice them. I always assumed heroin and meth. There are needles laying around.

What's repulsive is it's tax dollars that are keeping a lot of them there. What's heartbreaking is with the money they give the junkies they could put a lot of them in treatment, it works sometimes but not at all if you don't try.
