    Oh, say it ain't so...

The stinkin' Frogs think they're good enough to produce my beloved Dodge trucks in Mexico instead of the stinkin' Dagos?...
The French maker of Peugeot, Citroen and Opel cars is seeking a deal that will expand its footprint outside of Europe, according to people familiar with the matter. Tavares has met with advisers to consider potential collaborations or mergers, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the matter is private.

The deliberations are very preliminary and potential targets haven’t recently been approached, the people said. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV is attractive to PSA for its exposure to the U.S. and its premium Jeep brand, but Tavares also sees General Motors Co. as a good fit and Jaguar Land Rover as a possibility, the people said, while cautioning that such deals would be difficult to reach.

My god, man, Dodge is owned now by Fiat, the worst car maker this side of India, so Peugeot/Citroen/Opel would be a move up.

I had a Peugeot 504 in the early 70’s, and it proved quite roomy & comfortable for the day, although slower than owl ****. The only problem was parts supplies were very tight. In the 70’s I lusted after the legendary Citroen SM, but never even got to ride in one. Fiat’s holding company does own Ferrari and Maserati now, but they are run autonomously. Maybe Dodge is too, I don’t know, but the worst pile of crap I ever drove was a fiat the Jag dealer gave me while they serviced my car. The experience is burned in my memory.

When I was stationed over there, Citroen 2CV's and 4CV's were everywhere as well as Fiat 500's and Topolinos...I owned two VW Beetles, '54 and '56, and a '56 Opel (GM owned back then)...They were the only things that actually fit the narrow, twisty roads...Mercedes sedans were common too, but they were all diesel taxicabs...Most had at least a million miles on them......Ben

I had a Citroen something as a rental car one time in France. Other than playing with the hydraulic suspension system at traffic lights by dropping the nose all the way down and lifting the rear as high as it would go I was profoundly bored.

Other than the few I saw in Europe in the 60's, the only one I remember is the one in "The Longest Yard"...They called it a Maserati, but it's really a Citroen......Ben

The Citroen SM had a (for then) powerful Maserati V-6 engine in it.

Here is what I believe I had. I will explain that in a minute.

The Maserati connection happened in the successor to the DS, the SM which had a Maserati engine.

Now, back to the DS---the timing seems odd to me since that went out of production in the mid-70's and my time in France did not begin until the mid-80's. That seems to be a long time to be in a rental fleet---so, possibly it was a company car since at the time we still had a plant in France.

I have to confess I could not get "in-step" with the critics who rated this car as exciting and beautiful---I thought the damn thing looked stupid

Tip: Grilled cheese sandwich using mayo instead of butter ain’t bad and spreads a lot easier.
