I was a little slow on this one

Our grandchildren are all into electric scooters and that probably aided my ignorance of a "new" device I saw yesterday on 34th street in mid-town Manhattan.

The skateboarder was going the same way as me, but in the bus lane to my right. I was impressed with this guy and how effortlessly he was going along at an impressive pace. Finally, after about 4 or 5 blocks I noticed he moved away from a light change and never dropped a foot to the ground---it was only then that I noticed something in his right hand as well as another something under his board----the dude was under power!

Had he not done that miracle start up at the light I would never had noticed a difference to a normal skateboard.

Downtown San Antonio, a tourist trap, apparently (I never go there) is festooned with rental eboards and the hospitals are overflowing with injured riders. I have noted that the SA city counsel spends a lot of time trying to devise new rules to govern their (mis)use. I have not seen videos of any like you describe without handlebars though.

Same in down town Scottsdale. The ride share bikes and scooters are littering the town.
