Brings to mind an old incident from my dim past —

When I was an Asst. D.A. in Abilene, Tx. in the early 70’s, the police brought a case into my office to see what charges were in order for the perp. Seems late one night this guy walks into the local late-night eating joint (Abilene was a dry area at the time) very disheveled and looking like he had been in a fight, and he was carrying a shotgun. As you can imagine, everyone in the place, and it was full maybe 75-100 deep, commenced to diving for cover and running for the exits. The police were called and arrested the guy. It was my job to assign charges, but there were no specific charges for carrying a shotgun in Texas then. Best we could do was some hokey city misdemeanor “Disturbing The Peace” thing, which probably was too vague to pass muster anyway.

I do not know of a specific charge in Texas that would fit that situation in Texas to this day, but I have not been keeping up either.

After reading the article I remembered delivering two Dodge Sprinters to Minot ND in a dry van trailer. To tie them down they had nailed blocks in front and back of the tires with part of a load strap over the tires and under the blocks. Lucky for me they had put them in nose first so I could get in through the rear doors and back them out.

In my line of work I travel quite a bit and have found that the slim profile of a 1911 in a belt holster is the best on long drives, Lately I've been carrying a Cylinder & Slide custom Springfield 1911 with 3 Wilson 47D magazines loaded with Gold Dot ammo.

In addition to my 45, I also have one of these in the truck with me at all times.

As a further diversion to my #17 above, I spotted a similar incident, which will present a similar problem for the Philadelphia prosecutor who gets the case if the rat releasor is ever caught —
