    $$ well spent

I have put 23K on my dually since I bought it. it came with 89K on the odo. I have been doing regular Oil changes plus fuel filters. I had been putting off doing the tranny service. Then I smelled that unmistakable odor of gear oil from the left rear, I couldn't see any leaks or seeps but the nose knows. Into the shop it went for a full going over. I had set it up for a full tranny and transfer case fluid and filter change plus look for the axle leak and check everything else. Transmission / transfer fluid was coffee black, whoops. front axle seals and bearings were good as were the pads and brakes. they changed the axle/ differential lube. Rear left axle seal was leaking, pads and rotors were under 2mm thick, bearings were still good. replaced both axle seals, Pads and rotors, flushed the brake fluid front and rear, bled the system, refilled the axle /differential. in and out in 6 hours total bill $1030, peace of mind sending the wife down the road with the camper in the bed towing the horse trailer, priceless

You got yourself a very reasonably priced shop. You better write your mileage down and take care of it better next time.

I have to confess I am overkill on fluid changes. I dump the transmissions at 25k and all the fluids at 50k. I have never had a failure going back way before the Super Duties and they have a cumulative 325,000 on them.

It's good to hear a tale of how paying attention to your vehicle pays off, TG.

Kudos on a job well done.

100 miles in. I am getting 1.5 mpg better fuel economy in a mix of mt passes, freeways, and back roads. The rig is performing flawlessly

I'm curious, Eric...Exactly what kind of mileage do you get with everything you're hauling around?......Ben

on today's trip which included going over a 1000' high pass, heavy winds and rain. flat freeways and high crown secondary roads I was getting 13.8 mpg. The rig weighs 13,000 pounds as pictured

That critter is a bit exposed to the vagaries of the road, ‘eh, and I love the barbed wheels “just in case.”

It's on the rack more for Ruth. I can lift it out of a storage compartment just fine but its really hard for her to do it. Plus it is highly theft resistant and can be run to power the camper from the rack while locked in place. the rack itself is connected with case hardened locking pins to the hitch
