    Polar Vortex...

Just chatted with a friend that lives outside Minneapolis and she said it's -35*.... WTF? 72* for a high here today. I could not imagine trying to stay warm in those temps. I'd have to go buy some long pants.

I sent her a pic of me and a couple buddies golfing on Sunday in shorts and polo shirts... Did not go over well... I told her to book a flight and come visit for a few weeks.

Spent two years at Fairbanks, in fact we spent playing war north of that and we shut down a couple times when it got 50° below. Sleeping in the two bag combo that you breath inside gave me claustrophobia.

Out here on Long Island it is supposed to go down to -5 tomorrow night and a high of 14.
We get moderated by ocean temperatures which are currently in the low 40's.

At the cottage, 230 miles due west it is going down to -16 with a high -9.

My lowest was while living in Montreal in two successive winters @-46 which is about where C & F are the same.

    Added in edit:

Checking that statement of equality between F and C---it actually occurs at -40.

    But---it's a dry cold

I remember one winter in the early 70's when I was working a lot around the Great Lakes and all of them froze over---completely! That is the only time I ever saw that---but there might be another chance on the way

A polar vortex is a fluke as well.

I must confess that I do not always verify everything I post prior to posting as long as it comes from a dependable source and isn't considered a big deal. In this case it came from a dependable source and I consider it conversational, not a big deal.

Here is a link---in Australia, and you will find that the temperature did not reach 116 F---it was a mere 115.88 F. Also this took place last Thursday.

The real point should be that climate change seems to be causing global extremes in weather.

116* is nothing... We hit 120* last summer and have a record high of 122*.... had to shut down the airport because the take off power calculations did not go high enough for that heat. Oh, and the tarmac was melting
