Easy and cheap
....at least compared to how it is priced on menus. I'm talking about wedge salad which is commonly priced at $10-$12 on menus---a price that I find insulting.
I have begun making wedge salad at home on a regular basis---it is incredibly easy to make:
Dice bacon and fry until crispy
While the bacon cooks remove the outer leafs of a head of iceberg lettuce and cut in quarters, discarding the core.
Dice onion (red adds color) and tomato.
Blue cheese crumbles
Marzetti Blue Cheese veggie dip---and I think that is widely available
To that I add salad olives, capers and plenty of fresh ground pepper
Add all the ingredients over the lettuce and enjoy an incredible bargain
