    Bacon Fat

I use bacon fat/grease in some recipes we prepare...mostly cornbread...but do not cook much bacon anymore. Because we do not render much bacon fat, I looked around to see if anyone sells it and found what I need from good ‘ol Amazon.

    https://www.amazon.com/Bacon-Up-Grea...gateway&sr=8-3

Unfortunately, the container is commercial size (1 gallon) and will last for the rest of my life even after I bottled some up and gave portions to my friends & relatives. The rest goes into the freezer. Incidentally the product come filtered. I did notice another smaller container of 11oz. now shows up on Amazon.

I share your attraction----I love to use it in making my breakfast. Since we have been making wedge salads on a more regular basis I have a small ongoing supply from making the bacon bits.

I do the bacon in the oven on parchment paper. I save the bacon fat in the refrigerator and about the time I run out it's time to bake more bacon. Does wonders for fried eggs.

For information only. This is a ONE SOURCE statement. Others may differ.

Like all fats, bacon grease will eventually spoil, though if stored properly, this won't be for quite some time. Refrigerated bacon grease will stay good in the refrigerator for up to six months, and can be used in place of butter or cooking oil in many dishes.

Yes - that's what I do as well. I'd like to say it's about my health - but it's not. I'm simply doing what my parents always did.

I'd like to say I've moved on with my own life but, in reality, I become more and more like my parents with every passing year.

I use bacon fat for a lot of cooking. I'd use it more if I had more. Maybe I will get some from Amazon.

Mine is kept in the freezer in a stainless steel grease container with a strainer and lid. When I need some I just set it on the stove over a low flame to liquefy the fat. It doesn't take long.

I was buying bacon the other day and having a hard time finding the good old carcinogenic stuff. Almost all was that no nitrite crap. The world is going nuts.

I buy Wright bacon at Sam's. It still has nitrites. It comes thick sliced and you can choose from apple, hickory, or pecan smoked.

HEB has their thick sliced store brand hickory smoked at $9.99 for three pounds...It's consistent and tastes good...The label says sodium nitrite...Is that the same thing?...I'm not a chemist......Ben
