Most of this will have to be solved by either better zoning as to where people can build or better ways to build. Cali has hills and scrub brush and burns compared to the Gulf and Atlantic regions that are subject to hurricanes and storms. To be sure there are others that include floods and other natural disasters. We need to be able to say no to those that want to build in some of these areas.

New Orleans comes to mind as a good example, almost wiped out with the last hurricane and yet we still allowed them to rebuild. Bet I could name a dozen more areas including Tx that allows people in flood areas to rebuild.

It's what we do, complain until someone hears us and allows it to continue or stop it. Until then we'll waste time and money arguing about who is right.
During Harvey, a good bit of the middle and upper Texas Gulf Coast was flooded. Are you suggesting that no one be allowed to live here because of one rare freaky occurance?

That's fast turnaround for a big aircraft...Not as fast as the "scoop it out of the lake" turbo-prop flybys, but the jets get there and back much quicker......Ben

Ruth and I went out for Gyros at Dimetris Taverna downtown tonight, it was good. Then we took a stroll down the deserted city streets. County board of Supervisor has a free filter mask station downtown to help people deal with the air pollution from the fires

Note: Values above 500 are considered Beyond the AQI. Follow recommendations for the Hazardous category. Additional information on reducing exposure to extremely high levels of particle pollution is available here.

Man this is sad. This is a disaster of epic proportions. Just terrible. I have yet to see any declarations of disaster or areas or a state of emergency. Has the Gov asked for the feds to help the folks out?

More than a thousand people unaccounted for. That's a staggering amount of people if only 10% are dead do the math. This is some scary s***.triguy godspeed to you guys I'm so sorry you're having to endure this but I don't think the gravity of the situation is known or is setting with the rest of the nation because we're used to tornadoes earthquakes and hurricanes and we just don't think about fires in the same type of situation. This is just horrific
