...and now a little "class" from Trump:
Bowing to pressure, President Donald Trump on Monday ordered American flags at U.S. buildings lowered to half-staff for Sen. John McCain until his burial on Sunday. Trump's proclamation came just hours after the White House flag had been returned to full-staff, drawing complaints from right and left.
Trump, who had traded bitter criticism with McCain since before the election, declared his order "a mark of respect." At the same time, he said he'd accede to the family's request that he stay away from McCain's funeral services.

The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible - Arthur C. Clarke
Schumer wants to change the name of the Russell Building (John Russell himself being unworthy!) to take McCain’s name. I resent pols honoring each other naming landmarks with their buddies’ names. Ticks me off every time I get on Sen. Foghorn Bullhorn Freeway named after some pol I detest. A good law they could pass would be that no landmark or building can be named after a politician until at least 75 years after their death, then all that knew them personally will be gone and only the truly worthy will presumably be singled out. If we have to, name a ship after them; it will sink or be scrapped soon enough anyway.
Remember, half the items in the above category in West Virginia are named in honor of a former KKK Grand Keagle. Fame for pols should be fleeting, and we should not be stuck with very many of them at all glaring back at us in name or countenance. We have not had many Lincoln’s & Washington’s. Certainly, John McCain is not in that lofty category.
I am not much for funerals. My sympathies are much in line with Mark Twain’s —
Mark Twain's advice for good manners at a funeral
Do not criticize the person in whose honor the entertainment is given.
Make no remarks about his equipment. If the handles are plated, it is best to seem to not observe it.
If the odor of the flowers is too oppressive for your comfort, remember that they were not brought there for you, and that the person for whom they were brought suffers no inconvenience from their presence.
Listen, with as intense an expression of attention as you can command, to the official statement of the character and history of the person in whose honor the entertainment is given; and if these statistics should seem to fail to tally with the facts, in places, do not nudge your neighbor, or press your foot upon his toes, or manifest, by any other sign, your awareness that taffy is being distributed.
If the official hopes expressed concerning the person in whose honor the entertainment is given are known by you to be oversized, let it pass -- do not interrupt.
At the moving passages, be moved -- but only according to the degree of your intimacy with the parties giving the entertainment, or with the party in whose honor the entertainment is given. Where a blood relation sobs, an intimate friend should choke up, a distant acquaintance should sigh, a stranger should merely fumble sympathetically with his handkerchief. Where the occasion is military, the emotions should be graded according to military rank, the highest officer present taking precedence in emotional violence, and the rest modifying their feelings according to their position in the service.
Do not bring your dog.

Not to disparage John McCain but I would have to agree with that observation, certainly I cannot imagine either picking Sarah Palin for an "office" above that of a chamber maidWe have not had many Lincoln’s & Washington’s. Certainly, John McCain is not in that lofty category.

How many of you, when a person passes that you dislike, go out of your way to honor them with a statement saying how great they were ?.
Also, just what is it that makes 30 years of sitting on your ass, and trying to enact more laws than we need, more worthy of National mourning than the hundreds of military men and women who sacrificed in the service of their country ?.
I realize that as President, his actions should be guided by the fact he is expected to put aside his personal feelings in some instances. I also realize that he has shown a distinct aversion to dong that so I sort of expected his lack of laudatory comments.
And Bo, I don't think that the reach across the aisle was all that far for him.
I expect the President of the United States to be a cut above us and have a higher level of graciousness--- obviously that isn't the case here. How many of you, when a person passes that you dislike, go out of your way to honor them with a statement saying how great they were ?.

I agree completely Dave. Note that i stated that in my post.
There are many many remarks I would like to make. But out of respect for John McCain and his service to United States of America I will refrain. But when this is all said and done I'll have a few things to say about this
OPINION....a view or judgment formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge.
In a final act of pettiness, John McCain left instructions excluding his running mate, Sarah Palin, for his funeral and invited Barack Obama not only to attend (understandable), but to stand before the microphones and gig President Trump. He died diminished by his own hand.
