The death of a missile maker

From this "Morning's Briefing" in the NYT:
    • Aziz Asbar was one of Syria’s most important rocket scientists, bent on amassing an arsenal that could be launched against Israeli cities.

On Saturday, he was killed by a car bomb apparently planted by the Mossad, Israel’s spy agency.

    • It was at least the fourth attempted assassination by Israel in three years against an enemy weapons engineer on foreign soil, a senior official from a Middle Eastern intelligence agency said on Monday. Read more about the operation here.

    From the link:

Under Israeli law, the prime minister alone is authorized to approve an assassination operation, euphemistically known as “negative treatment” within the Mossad. Spokesmen for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman did not respond to requests for comment on Monday.
Not to make light of such a serious subject but someone around there has one hell of a sense of humor------"negative treatment" ----- all righty then

As I recall, we called the same a “sanction.”
    It has been underused lately.

Car bombs are a part of life in that area, how did Israel get tied into it so quick, as in no denial and it was even known that that had tried and failed before. I guess they could be wanting certain people to know that they are not above playing by the same rules.

We can't do that anymore as in 'how' we did it before. The uproar started with a fellow from Nigeria. Then congress, the president etc... said as a civilized country we can't do that any more and Bam the CIA was out of business. I'm not sure how much any of that was publicized in the media, that was way back when they would actually work with us.

We don't do it anymore because we have moved on to a new delivery method---drones.

Good observation! It was all started before drones but does have little oops clauses if a bomb should fall in the wrong place.
No person employed by or acting on behalf of the United States Government shall engage in, or conspire to engage in, political assassination.
Originally executive order 12333 and then amended by Ford, Carter, Bush, and probably Bush II, Clinton, Obama and soon Trump

People who fly around in helicopters, ride in limos, play golf and/or appear on podiums have a stake in not declaring open season on heads of state.
