    Spent the day in Santa Cruiz & eve hit the pier.........

    Tomorrow Ft Ord, 17 Mile drive or Big Sur, leaning toward Big Sur......

    Ok, just looked at the map..........

    Don't know if we have enough time to see it.....have 2 full days planned in SF......

    Serious question......in the Alameda/Oakland areas, for a outsider, is that area safe to find a random hotel, areas to stay away from......was not plannig on even crossing over there....however...and it will take me a full day to climb around the Hornet......

    Emeryville is fine as are the hotels on Alameda Island (great walks along the western shoreline paths). I wouldn't stay by the Airport just because there is nothing to do there. West tip of Bayfarm Island is also fine

    go hit Big Sur. you have the perfect car for it. Lunch at Nepenthe on the cliff top

    Hummmm, found a Rodeway Inn @ Alameda, but the vast majority are sold out or out of our price range.......

    Some superb restaurants along Cannery Row in Carmel, and especially enjoyed eating overlooking the bay with frisky otters working the seaweed below us. I think they liked putting on a show for onlookers.
