Highway 1 is the best route if your not in a hurry. Think part of it is closed around Big Sur. Use this to check conditions. http://www.dot.ca.gov/cgi-bin/roads.cgi

Ugh, always hear about Big Sur in the movies and books & was on the must visit list. However, it look like ya can get into it going South out of Monterey. Looks like 101 from Vandenburg up into Montery....

I dunno...Since California does not permit state-funded travel to Texas (and other states), I suppose it's only fair that I ban self-funded travel by myself to California...I guess they just don't like Texans......Ben

    Love the change in plans....

We shall be in arriving @ Navy Gateway Inns & Suites - Monterey the 4th of July after driving up the coast...then switching over to the Presidio of Monterey Army billeting after a few days and then leaving the 10th of July.

Lots of time to explore and enjoy the coast & fresh seafood.....

Picked up a new Canon 80D camera and hopefully will get some killer pictures.....

Now to find the topless beaches....

Do not go to the topless beaches, you will scare everyone if you go topless.

I was told they even have a name for me out in Calif......Polar Bear and to go topless would be fine, but I need to stop in and get a leather harness and a flogger (whatever they are) when in San Fran.....

Trying to bypass San Jose, think we will be going up the coast, Monterey to Santa Cruiz to Half Moon Bay or possibly Pacifica.....but Half Moon Bay......might have to look around for decent hotels and stay here a day or 2........and then zip into SF and back....

However, we might make a run or 2 up thru Santa Cruiz on the 17 & then cut up to San Fran depending on the day and time and how traffic is.

Wife really likes the looks of Half Moon bay, Sister said she's ridden her motorcycle up there and back and it's a really nice drive....so looking for hotels......if we can find one that won't break the bank that is...

I could so easily live in Calif if they did not have such messed up politics and laws....it's such a beautiful place and we have family ties to several places.....

Tell ya what, flying into LAX after being overseas for a couple years...seeing the HOLLYWOOD sign....it sounds stupid, but was actually emotional being home again....Mom lived in the shadow of that sign at one time.....

Got into a major pissing contest with a couple people about how ****ed up Calif is and how it's noting but a sewer full of illegals and hate fulled liberals....woza I actually got pissed off and went off on his ass....can't believe I actually defended Calif....

    Sweet, thanks much
