Kim Fires His Top 3 Generals according to this article. With the inscrutable & erratic Kim, it is impossible to tell what, if anything, this might mean. I want video if he sets them loose in a field and lobs motor shells at them though.

That's good news for now, hopefully they don't have a following. I'm sure the three new Generals were well versed on keeping their troops in line so to speak, they are the new leaders of the military under Junior. "You must make them believe you" No coups!!!!

    From my morning reading:
This could be a sign that the North Korean leader is “pursuing a new policy to become a developing country without nuclear weapons, rather than a poor country with nuclear weapons,” he said.

“He has chosen the route of pursuing denuclearization and a peace treaty through dialogue, and is appointing a new generation of military leaders to set the tone for his vision,” Kim Yong-hyun said.

He described Pak and Ri as “leaders of the past, of Kim Jong Il’s generation.”

“Kim Jong Un has chosen a new leadership who reflects his new approach and can more naturally propagate his new policies to bring stability within the military,” the professor said.

I thought it was all going to fail because president Trump was running the show. Look the guy over there in Korea he knows he can't fight the United States He also knows China doesn't have his back so he wants to keep having his little party over there he's got to deal. It's not much more complex than that.

The guy was educated in Switzerland. He knows what prosperity is.
It could be that he understands that his country is a pariah and kept in perennial destitution for a reason — its abdominal history under his father and grandfather. Perhaps his scheme was to put everything into gaining nuclear bomb status to have one ultimate stick with which to bargain assurances to leave his regime in power in return for giving his nukes up to get MacDonalds and relief from sanctions for his people. He may have figured (correctly?) that the only feasible way to get out of the trap was to produce something so powerful the enemies which hate him for good reason would still be forced to make a deal. Remember, his current status is as a virtual vessel state to a China, which is an historical hated enemy. Wouldn’t he like to sever from that dependency as much as possible?

Just ruminating here...not wed to this theory...
I’m aware the theory ascribes an iota of humanity to someone who has demonstrated no sign whatsoever of any before, but I’m searching for some reasonable motive for his recent actions and nuclear blackmail is certainly not above him as a tactic. In essence I am positing that he put everything into obtaining something he always planned to bargain away (nukes) for something he wants more (reentry into the world community).

I basically agree with your premise. Kim has woven himself into a web from which he now has to free himself, a process that will have some perilous turns.

I've always wondered about that, I figured China would take him out once he started his nuke program. I remember from way back when I had an education that the two were mortal enemies. I assumed it was that buffer between democracy in South Korea that kept the North alive.

Pretty typical for leaders who rule in that fashion. Once their power and respect is taken away, respect can be translated as "the people no longer fear the dictator", they usually do not live much longer. When a dictator rules with an iron fist, everybody becomes an enemy to them, especially those who the despot has wronged.

The next power hungry fool steps up and the race is back on.

It doesn't get much dumber than this, from today's WSJ:

President Donald Trump’s lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, said North Korean leader Kim Jong Un got “on his hands and knees and begged” for their summit to be held after Mr. Trump canceled it last month.

Mr. Giuliani counseled a similar approach to Trump administration negotiations with Palestinian officials in a future Middle East peace process.

Speaking at an investment conference in Israel hosted by the “Globes” newspaper, Mr. Giuliani said Mr. Trump canceled the summit last month because senior North Korean officials insulted top Trump administration officials.

I used to think Giuliani had some sense.

I never saw anything in him. In years long since past, I suspect he would have been a carpet bagger.
