Should Pres. Trump be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize?...

    LINK...
Congratulated for an apparent breakthrough in relations between South Korea and North Korea, South Korean President Moon Jae-in says, "It's President Trump who should receive the Nobel Prize."
In my opinion, if a known terrorist such as Yassar Arafat, and a political advantagist like Barack Obama can be awarded the prize, without having done anything to advance the cause of peace, then certainly Donald Trump can be considered for the same award with his ability to scare a demented dictator like Kim Jong-un into a peace conference......

The two you mentioned devalued the prize to meaninglessness. Forgidaboudit.

I think we ought to give it to Kim Jong-un. That will give it clear definition; "meaninglessness. Forgidaboudit."

    From Wikipedia —

...As per Alfred Nobel's will, the recipient is selected by the Norwegian Nobel Committee, a five-member committee appointed by the Parliament of Norway. Since 1990, the prize is awarded on 10 December in Oslo City Hall each year. (Nominations for this year’s prize closed on January 31 of this year)

...Nominations are considered by the Nobel Committee at a meeting where a short list of candidates for further review is created. This short list is then considered by permanent advisers to the Nobel institute, which consists of the Institute's Director and the Research Director and a small number of Norwegian academics with expertise in subject areas relating to the prize. Advisers usually have some months to complete reports, which are then considered by the Committee to select the laureate. The Committee seeks to achieve a unanimous decision, but this is not always possible. The Nobel Committee typically comes to a conclusion in mid-September, but occasionally the final decision has not been made until the last meeting before the official announcement at the beginning of October...

The Norwegians in charge are an historically Lefty bunch and would be beyond averse to Donald Trump anything, much less a guy who promised “Fire & Fury beyond anything ever seen” as a “Peace Prize” winner.

Was this in response to Trump's sanctions against North Korea? I don't think so. I'm thinking Kim Jong-un got the message when he was summoned to China in March. Shortly after his meeting with the Chinese, he decided to meet with South Korea and with the U.S.

Did Trump influence the Chinese to intervene? Maybe. He did have talks with the Chinese about them controlling their little brother. But, then again, China had a hell of a lot to lose if little brother decided to play with his new toys.

I think it is too early to award Trump the prize. We need to see the outcome and what caused Kim to back down, if he really is backing down.

Although getting the two sides to talk is a major accomplishment, if it does not come to actual peace, the award would be useless. Also it has been awarded for much less so I think the award has lost some of its luster and meaning.

Like wannabe said, the real reward would be the poor people of Nkorea finally getting out from under the starvation and dictator rule.

I kind of look at it like this. The Nobel Peace Prize at least as far as I can tell in contemporary times rarely can be associated with someone who did something for peace at least in the conventional definition of the word. So we can talk about whether Trump is deserving but in the end it won't matter because he won't win. I would take a slight exception with what Mike said by saying that I think Trump played a very heavy hand with China in order to force them to do what they did. I by no means am giving Trump credit for all of it but I think he is a main player him along with his team.

South Korea has already said that Trump is the one who made it happen.....but why listen to South Korea, like they know anything....

Friend from Okinawa is married to a Korean & her parents are in Korea and he was telling me, they all think that without Trump nothing would have changed....that Trump is working a miracle and getting closer to reuniting the peninsula than anybody ever has since the "peace action" that the Koreans call a War.
