...But a more serious case of apparent misconduct involves Facebook data going to a different presidential campaign – this time in 2012. In this case, which is getting far less attention, Facebook reportedly voluntarily provided data on millions of its users to the re-election campaign of President Obama.

If true, such action by Facebook may constitute a major violation of federal campaign finance law as an illegal corporate campaign contribution. The matter should be investigated by the Federal Election Commission – an agency I am quite familiar with, because I served as one of its commissioners from 2006 to 2007. The commission enforces campaign finance laws for congressional and presidential elections...
That is a wrinkle I missed first time through this one. Die, Facebook, die.

You don't remember everybody clapping Obama on the back for using technology to win?

I do not understand why it was good for Obama, yet it is bad for Trump to win that way. Nothing on Facebook, the ads (that I do not click on) the fake stories or anything else they throw out there could sway me to vote for somebody because they posted it. In fact it is actually disgusting that somebody would think that I was dumb enough to let Facebook tell me how to vote. ANybody that let facebook tell them how to vote is probably walking out of their school room protesting some agenda or something else foolish.

That Facebook allowed the metrics of their members to be used by either the Obama or the Trump campaigns was wrong.

However, in this election cycle, a new wrinkle was added to help Trump's campaign.

When the Russians were allowed to buy political influence ads and to place fake stories on Facebook it rose above a clever new use of social media to a foreign enemy attacking the integrity of our democratic process.

Many of those who were influenced did not know they were being used by a foreign power such as this woman:

You accept the rules of any site you register for just by clicking on the button. Still stuck on that Russian thing I see. Oh well that is old and used up and people are tired of hearing about Russia. If Russia did indeed try to help anybody win, they got shafted because Trump ****canned a whole bunch more russian big wigs today.

You should really check into what google does to you, you use their site all of the time and they can tell you exactly where you go and what you looked at anytime you click on something. They put a cookie on your machine that tracks your every move. If you use it on your phone it gets even worse. The app works even when you think it is off.

Try these links, that should get your attention. Facebook has nothing on Google....
    https://www.popularmechanics.com/tec...ower-tracking/

This one is even worse, an actual test of the phone, even when it is not supposed to be tracking.

You might want to delete any google app and anything even related to google if you are worried about Russians.

    Already been discussed here:

I am not concerned I will be tricked into supporting Russian propaganda because my positions and Russia's do not in any way converge.

As far as any cookies, I use a cookie control extension in Chrome that allows me to delete, block, or edit any cookies that are placed on my computer by any website that I visit including this one. It is a cookie named "www.crackerbarrelphilosophers.com". It indicates that I have logged on and what discussions I have responded to and which ones I have and have not read.

It is a small file that assists in web use and if you look, you too have one on your system.

Google Chrome gives me the option to automatically clear all browsing data when I close the browser. I have that enabled not because I am worried about a history of where I have browsed but because I have an old laptop that tends to lock up if I don't clear the history and cache regularly.

G-O-O-G-L-E- Chrome think about that for just a sec. Yessir we did not record anything..... I saw nothing, nothing. Of course they are going to tell you that. While they sell your info to another site or anybody else that wants it. You just do not understand how it all works do you.

These sites don't necessarily need to record anything on your computer, they adjust what you see by recording where you went. Say your browser on your computer has a serial number. All it needs to know is the serial number and it funnels all of the ads tailored just for you to that number. Phone number works with your phone. Not to mention your path has been flagged and marked for all eternity comrade.

For a while, Intel had the CPU serial numbers on their products and it was trackable across all the platforms of every browser. There was a lot of complaints of privacy concerns so Intel stopped IDing their products. At least as far as publically tracked IDs. There are easier ways to track Internet activity though.

I really do not care if my browsing history or information I present online is "sold". I give it away for free but not as freely as some do.

A simple GIS of the handle "TxMusky " shows the plethora of information you tie to your online character.

You have a very beautiful place and a wonderful workshop that reminds me of the small farm I grew up on in Irving Texas in the 1940s and 50s.

The only currently online presence of any of the places I have lived is the one that was published when I put my place in DeFuniak Springs up for sale about 5 years ago.

I am not sure why it is still there but it does show some of the permanence of Internet postings.

I am still sleeping on the four poster canopy bed although it is now in a smaller bedroom.

If you have accounts on the ‘net, it is pretty much a nasty invasion of the privacy you thought you have but don’t.

Yep, if you post something anywhere it is out in the public domain. Those photos were nothing special, I made that account back in 09 to send to some friends and then forgot that I set it up. Havent used it past that one time, so I just deleted it.

Every post on this board are as well.

That (75 viewing) are scrapers grabbing posts and archiving them.

The most information a person gives away on himself comes from those retail saver cards. When you scan your card it saves the information of every item purchased.

They are everywhere from Home Depot to Kroger.

There are millions of pictures of you that are taken and stored. Every ATM transaction and every time you go into a store and even you driving down the street.

We live in the "Information Age" and our information is stored everywhere.
