Musk should launch his ashes into deep space. That's where he belongs.

    He would likely agree.

He is now in deep space and wish he could share what he is seeing.

What a great and appropriate thought

You must know that while widely accepted as The Current Physics Genius by the general public, he was much less than that among his physics peers. I would explain, but I am incapable of understanding the issues underlying the split. I do not converse in the language of the trade — math. To me, String Theory is how to fashion a fishing net. I invite you to look it up and explain the issues.

I have no compulsion to expalin---independent of--and far more important than his scientific theories was his relentless human spirit.

My Mother died of ALS, I understand how insidious that disease is and Mr Hawking pushed that to the side for 50 years. One of the most difficult things I saw my Mother deal with was the fact that her mind never degraded---she was fully aware of what was happening and her fate. As the disease progressed she could no longer speak, and then no longer write. The disease trapped her into silence as she waited to die either from an inability to swallow or to breath--which would win being the only unknown.

Her only salvation, from that slow execution, came when we could no longer provide suitable care at home we admitted her to the hospital. That night she passed away---unexpectedly. My wife reviewed her chart (at the time they were still on paper and in the room)---my Mother had been given a double dose of morphine by two different nurses---a blessed mistake---we never said a word---other than offering our thanks.

So---right or wrong matters not, Mr Hawking was a winner

I marveled and wondered at the same time how he doggedly kept that dread disease from killing him or his spirit for 50 years. He was a winner.

As with everything there are different opinions, theory's if you will. The tips of the stings determined weight and mass was one and then....on and on and then came the quarks which were a step beyond. HA! I can't remember any of this stuff, I was going to give it a shot, started typing and fell off a cliff

An excellent article on Mr. Hawking's contributions and life.

Not that I was immune to his celebrity. I was fortunate to have met Hawking on a few occasions, at physics conferences I was attending as a journalist. Once, during a lecture, I found myself sitting directly behind him. I tried my best to pay attention to the speaker, but I was mesmerized by the words flashing across the computer screen mounted to the arm of Hawking’s wheelchair. Paralyzed by a motor neuron disease, Hawking had one last functioning muscle in his cheek, and by twitching it he could control the cursor on his monitor. The cursor constantly scrolled though a catalog of his most commonly used words, and with a properly timed twitch he could select one from the list, slowly and arduously building up sentences for that oracular voice to deliver. In his otherworldly presence, I couldn’t help thinking those sentences contained the answers to the universe.
