    Chrome problem

Recently Chrome has a new trick for me---it automatically created hyperlinks in text. It does this seemingly everywhere and as such has rendered itself useless.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice and run a full can with not change.

Within my signature here I now have an example:

"A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity, an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty” ---Sir Winston Churchill

"Political extremism involves two prime ingredients: an excessively simple diagnosis of the world's ills, and a conviction that there are identifiable villains back of it all." ---John W. Gardner
It turns opportunity and diagnosis into hyperlinks.

I've done a search for the issue but come up dry---any help would be appreciated.

I don't see the hyperlinks in your sig or your quote, Dave...

I use Chrome exclusively, and I have not seen, nor heard of this problem until now......Ben

    I know---when I use IE they aren't there either.

Just to show you I'm not crazy---and they are not only blue--they are hyperlinks:

I'm good to go Ben---I ran all the diagnostics I have and nothing fixed the problem---so I fixed it the old fashioned way---I deleted Chrome.

    Thanks--from Firefox

I don't see the links except in your uploaded screen shot. Did you ever click on one of the links to see what would happen? I suspect they are using keywords to link to ads. Probably from an extension or malware you accidentally acquired.

I visited a couple of websites which had that peculiar format of certain seemingly random words being hyperlinked to somewhere. I complained to one (can’t remember which one now) asking to delete that feature. I got a response from the head honcho, who said it was a revenue feature and he was going to stay with it. I do not recall running across it lately though.

Well---they can get their revenue from someone else

Yes, I have clicked on them and it does go to some kind of ad. I believe your assumption is correct but none of my tools came up with anything.

Update---for what it might be worth.

I took Chrome off my office PC which also doubles as my server. That ended my problem---almost.

I use a web based engineering software subscription service. I can do calculations on line and commonly save the results as .pdf files. Yesterday I was doing deflection calculations on walls and when I tried to convert and save them as .pdf files it would not allow me to do that, saying there was a Google file missing (I have the upgraded leased version of Adobe). The immediate fix was to work on another computer.

However, going forward I had to have a fix--and that is where this story takes a dive. I reinstalled Google on my office computer--and the problem of hyperlinks is gone---and I have no idea of where it went or how it left

That is after having done that multiple times last week. Prior to doing that this morning I did another search for any stray residual add on files and found only one, which when I researched it seemed to have no bad press.

    Life goes on.

I'm not sure the Russians are this smart.

I just used Chrome on my office computer (I am in NY) to respond to this. First I was taken to the sign in page---and that was sporting hyperlinks When I proceeded to sign in it redirected me to a survey---claiming to be for this site. I closed Chrome and came back again and it seemed fine. If this continues I will just not use Chrome on this computer.
