Dick’s Sporting Goods will stop selling assault-style rifles

Following the mass shooting at a Florida high school, one of the nation's largest sporting goods stores announced Wednesday that it will enact tougher gun sale restrictions — including no longer selling assault-style rifles.

Saying "thoughts and prayers are not enough," Dick's Sporting Goods CEO Edward Stack announced several gun sale restrictions at its over 600 nationwide chains.

"We don't want to be a part of this story any longer," Stack told NBC News in an interview. "We were so disturbed and saddened by what happened down there and watching those kids be so brave to walk out of that school and start to organized for gun reform... if they can be that brave then we can be that brave too."

The chain will stop selling assault-style rifles, end the sale of firearms to buyers under 21 (up from federal minimum age of 18), stop selling high-capacity magazines and continue to never sell controversial bump stocks, the company said

Dicks stopped selling AR's here years ago....must be at lest 6 or 8 years ago if not longer. They had a real nice display, tons of ammo and some shooting happened & pulled em all off the shelves and the ammo. Said they would never sell em again.

So now we park outside the store & walk thru it to the mall and the only guns they sell are shotguns for bird hunting and expensive clay birds....

Walmart will only sell guns and ammunition to people over the age of 21 from now on.
The company said in a statement Wednesday that it decided to review its firearm sales policy "in light of recent events."

"Going forward, we are raising the age restriction for purchase of firearms and ammunition to 21 years of age. We will update our processes as quickly as possible to implement this change," a statement said.

"We are also removing items from our website resembling assault-style rifles, including nonlethal airsoft guns and toys," Walmart (WMT) said. "Our heritage as a company has always been in serving sportsmen and hunters, and we will continue to do so in a responsible way."

Walmart says it has not sold "modern sporting rifles" -- such as the kind that was used by the Florida shooter -- since 2015. "We also do not sell handguns, except in Alaska where we feel we should continue to offer them to our customers," the company said.

"We take seriously our obligation to be a responsible seller of firearms and go beyond Federal law by requiring customers to pass a background check before purchasing any firearm," the company said.

If an honest kid with honest intentions who wants to go hunting they'll be plenty of dads grandads uncles aunts cousins or other people that will be glad to loan him or her a shotgun or a 22 rifle to go out and harvest animals. As far as I'm concerned the rest of this conversation about teenagers getting guns at their will is ridiculous

So, you can be 20 years old in the Marines, a E4 with 3 other Marines lives depending on you...deployed to some **** hole, blown up, watches his driver killed (best friend) the other 2 guys he's responsible for shot up in a gun battle, but lived & he killed a few bad guys....and then get's to come home, not have a beer and not be able to buy a gun to go target shooting with.....

Tom, you make it sound as if you're ready to revoke the right of a father to hand over ownership of a favorite long gun to an 18 year old son or daughter...You or I can do that at any time, and the gun belongs to the younger family member...No laws have been violated, and the teenager is free to enjoy it, even trade it or sell it at his discretion...A parent who already legally owns and possesses a firearm can lawfully give that gun to anyone he chooses if he believes that person is not otherwise restricted from its possession...Are you ready to relinquish that right?......Ben
