    Question for Ben

On this forum if you want to post a link I know how to do that what I don't know how to do is instead of the entire link showing on the post it's just a simple word like some people use punch here or something like that. In other words the link is embedded in the words they choose to call it. How do you do that. Thanks Ben

Some readers like myself like to know the identity of an URL before they open it, which is why I most often post the longer address to give a clue. For instance, I sometimes post links to Breitbart articles, which I know some want to ignore or avoid, so my longer url reveals that. I only can open a limited number of some site’s articles per month before being cut off without turning off cookies, and thus like to know where I am going before opening a link.

If you are having trouble posting the longer url, try hitting the icon with the symbol of a globe with binoculars on it.

Alternately, you can use Mike's post above to get the code...Just hit "Reply With Quote" to see the actual code you can copy surrounded by brackets ( [] )...Insert your desired link and word(s) for redirect, and you've got it...

Or just type the words you want to use, highlight them, then push the globe icon and paste in your URL...I use this method as it's quicker for me, and I get to add underlining to the words to make them pop out a little better (blue doesn't contrast enough with black for my poor eyesight, leading to sometimes missing a posted link)......Ben

I accomplish the same thing by right-clicking the highlighted word(s) then using "Copy Link Address" from the menu...I can then just paste the link in a new tab or window to see where it goes before I go there...

On a similar note, I noticed yesterday that LV learned to post embedded videos in Cheese & Crackers (possibly the most useful thing he's learned since figuring out how to make hard cider out of cabbage )...Find his post and quote it for the code...The trick then is in removing the security "s" after "http" from your own YouTube link before posting......Ben

I use Chrome for a browser. If I hover over a link, the URL is displayed in the bottom left of the screen. So I can see the URL at a glance without clicking on the link.

I forgot about that...The lettering is so tiny I usually can't read it......Ben

I only use my IPad, which has no right click or hover feature.

Some links are not allowed to be posted no mater how you try, I forget the "code" that appears, but the forum will not let them thru.
