Found it in a half fallen down barn in a pile with some wagon wheels and other assorted farm implements. I did well with it but I figure it was because it was the beginning of winter when I went in and I wasn't jumping in the lake to take a bath, nor was I going to wash my only cloths and stand around naked until they dried so I probably smelled more like a deer than they did and I could get close for a shot.

223/5.56 is illegal for dear/antelope and such in the Midwest, it's to small a caliber and wounds more than it kills.....

Point of order, Gene Stoner designed the weapon/ammo to wound and not kill, it was designed to wound as it takes 4 troops to remove 1 from the battlefield and a wounded troop takes more recourdes than a dead one & thus wounding is better than killing when it comes to winning a war.

This is mundane. People kill... Not weapons... BUT , people use certain weapons to kill. SO , maybe we should not allow those GMC's to be in the general public's hands ?

If they are going to kill anyone they will use whatever they fancy, you take away one thing they will use another.

How is another law going to stop it. isn't murder already against the law, and that does not seem to bother the killers enough to not do it. Same goes for drugs, speeding, DUI, illegal immigration, etc. Those who do not respect the laws, do not follow them, plain and simple. Notice that these mass shooters do not pick places where they may encounter somebody with equal force to stop them. They pick places where they are the only ones armed, and places where they know they will have terrified victims who will not put up any resistance. The weapon used is a moot point and smart people should understand that.

I refer back to the 2 people who tried to shoot up a gathering in Dallas where everyone was armed, those jerks never made it in the door.

I'll bet we have more killings today by people with guns then we ever had in the days since the start of this country, time of the old west or even after all the wars we have been in in the last century. This thing about needing it for protection is about the stupidest argument yet. As for the game hunters, I would really like to have an honest number of active hunters out there compared to the everyday want to be plinkers. Venture to say that number is way lower out of all the gun owners out there.

As for a guy being this or that political party when this happens doen't make the party dumb or dumber so quit using BS talking points guy and really discuss the elephant in the room, guns who should own them, what type or does anything go and not the stupid stuff that's driveled out every time there's a shooting.

    My 2 cents.

Maybe you are part of the problem, But none of the guns I own as a American citizen have hurt ANYONE. Nor any of my friends or family.

Sporting rifle?? What the heck is that?

Hunting with a fully automatic AR or AK in fully automatic mode, why yes, not very prudent. but the semi-automatic version of these rifles make a great weapon to hunt with..

Oh just in case to try to go down the road that the 2nd amendment is for hunting... It has nothing to do with hunting, unless it comes time to hunting traitors and tyrants..

NO they are not, an assault weapon is very expensive, $15K-$30K, fully automatic weapon. This idiot used an AR-15, semi-automatic.

    Please educate yourself

Good points 07, the problem is those who are screaming the loudest have no clue what they are hollering about. They have no clue as to what "assault" really means. To call a store bought AR the same as a military version is stupid. That would be like comparing the Monte Carlo used in professional racing to the Monte Carlo you buy at your local Chevy dealer. Nothing in common.

Yes, liberals are very angry. Do you ever see in the news where Conservatives are protesting by robbing, looting and burning their cities? I think we know where the anger really is. I do not recall any Conservatives donning "vagina hats" or costumes or taking pics with a severed Obama head or threatening to do harm to him.

Okay Fred, you and others keep rattling on about background checks and we all know that politics is all about compromise. How about you put more background checks on the table for your side and we get a photo ID required to vote? Put your money where your jaws flap buddy.

The AR-15 rifle was designed to kill people and that's what it's being used for. There has to be some compromise to try and stifle this issue.

The M-16 and the M4 were designed to kill people. Much different than the AR. The AR is little more than a cheap copy of their big brother. The 30 round magazine will fit into a mini 14 ranch rifle if the truth be known, you can take the business end of a mini 14 and put the scary stock and hand holds on it and most people could not tell the difference. Every gun was designed with killing something in mind. I would not use one for killing a person but some loony people do. If I were going to do something stupid like killing a person it would not be standing a couple of feet from them with a rifle, that would call for a pistol for a whole bunch of reasons, namely the additional amount of ammo in magazines one could carry. For every one magazine of 30 223 round you could carry 3 18 round magazines of 9mm. SImple math for that one. Second, would be the ability to maneuver a pistol over a long gun, not to mention easier concealment.

Any person thinking of killing another human being just to kill them is not right in the head to begin with. Second, there is a law that encompasses any act of killing no matter the weapon. That law says it is illegal to murder anyone, period. If they are willing to bypass that main one, the type of weapon they use is moot.

Well now, wasn't that what guns were built for to begin with. Then after a while--Oh! we can hunt animals with it too. In the end a gun is just a tool. It can be used for good or evil. The choice is up to the user.
