Tesla' Solar Roof Tiles Announced Cheaper Than Expected

40% cover of a 2000 sq. ft. home in New York with battery back-up claimed to calculate to cost $50K would produce $64K of energy in 30 years. One would think it would be much better in sunny climes. Get your reservations in early.

Did not read the article but when I did research to see if it was worth it to put a solar system on my house I determined that by the time I recoup the cost in energy savings the panels would be near the end of their life cycle.

I do agree that the roof tile approach is brilliant. Maybe they can get the cost down even further. There's a reason why I live in the sunny desert but very few homes have solar.

Have you colored your roof white, Phil? That seems like a sensible step for Arizonans to me.

Flat roofs are painted white but mine is pitched and shingled.

I wonder why those cannot be colored a reflective white when installed? I understand why painting them now would be too much.

When I still owned Shooter's Station, we contracted to have the original red steel roof repainted to a reflective silver...The resulting reduction in electricity used surprised even me......Ben
