Almost Can't Miss Laser Rifle Guidance Reaches Everyone

...called Trackingpoint and introduced at this year's Consumer Electronics Show. Secret Service must be having fits and sportsmen are shunning it by droves (Where's the sport in "can't miss?"). Of course a strange brand of "sportsmen" always have been line-shooters and headlight hunters. Meat hunters and assassins will have zero compunction against them, although still bit pricy for the former.

You had to know this was coming and sooner rather than later. [Joe's Third Axiom: Given enough time, what can happen will happen.]

Next question: How long before a move in Congress to outlaw such devices? Why would anyone invest in developing these for the market when much less dangerous devices have been outlawed or suppressed. Speaking of suppressing...

Oh, I get it, it is aimed at militaries around the world. Has ours already rejected or accepted it?

I think we probably use something like it already. The firing process in an Abrams tank is similar and we've been using that for a long time.

Hard to get an M1A1 set up along the President's parade route though, and they are definitely lacking in bringing home the meat, at least in usable form.

I don't see the problem. It is far too expensive for anyone except the government to use. Well, there are the drug cartels, but I think they like to kill up-close and personal. It makes a bigger statement.

These guys are upping their game to now include shooting from any position and around corners by incorporating Google-glass monitoring a Bluetooth aiming device.

TrackingPoint Inc., the Texas company that specializes in creating precision guided firearms, has harnessed Google Glass technology to create a firearm that can hit targets that are behind corners. It’s called the the first precision-guided firearm (PGF).
“When paired with wearable technology, PGFs can provide unprecedented benefits to shooters, such as the ability to shoot around corners, from behind low walls, and from other positions that provide exceptional cover,” TrackingPoint claimed in a press release. “Without PGF technology, such positions would be extremely difficult, if not impossible, to fire from.”...

How easy would it be to combine both technologies this company offers to make a remotely fired assassination point of a stable target such as a public speaker and monitored/triggered over the internet?

BTW, why are there 375+ views of a thread with 5 comments, when our average is ~10 views per comment? Who has been researching this subject outside our little community? Does the NSA leave a "view hit?"

Last Friday TrackingPoint closed on a $29 million round of venture funding. Historically venture funds have stayed far away from any weapon associated investments. So does this mean they have a viable technology as far as government control is concerned, I don't think they would have gotten that much in venture funding if it was.

More likely anticipated government use rather than control up to and including military purchases would be my guess.

Chris Kyle's widow uses one of these rifles to best champion shooter in contest.

The widow of Navy SEAL sharpshooter Chris Kyle likely would have made her late husband proud by winning the 'American Sniper Shootout' charity event that was named after him on Saturday.

Novice shooter Taya Kyle defeated reigning NRA champion Bruce Piatt and raised $500,000 for her husband's charity by notching a perfect score at the shootout competition in Mason, Texas.

But Kyle, who made 100 per cent of her shots for a total of 10,140 points, had a little bit of help.

The rifles, which were developed with input from Kyle's husband, all feature 'RapidLok Target Acquisition' technology that automatically will acquire and track a target while the trigger is pulled.

The company was so confident she would defeat Piatt, who competed with the M4A1, M110, and M2010 military rifles, that they offered to pay him $1million if he was able to win the contest.

In addition to help her raise money for charity, Kyle also thinks the technology could help save lives.

She said: 'Our first responders and military members regularly face situations most of us cannot imagine.

'They need every advantage for precision and efficiency to protect and serve while minimizing collateral damage and risk to themselves.

'[The technology] would have saved lives of friends we have lost and will save life and/or limb of those who put it all on the line for the 99% of us they choose to give their life for.'

It’s the NSA checking on who might be buying/using a Laser Rifle Guidance system and can you say paranoia?
