    Dishwasher tip

Somewhere, I saw a tip to add 2 cups of vinegar to the dishwasher for really clean, shiny dishes. You just dump it in the tub when you first start the load. I gave it a try, and it works. I have hard water that spots badly, but the vinegar trick takes care of that and also leaves the inside of the dishwasher looking new.

You should be careful about what you wash with the vinegar in the dishwasher because it may turn some metals black.

If your wife is your dishwasher don't try dumping the vinegar in her as it may turn your eye(s) black.

We have four dogs in kitchen service and no dishwasher can ever beat them for getting the dishes clean ...

Well ... if the dogs don't get the dish washing job done, we got two cats ready to take over.

Yeah and I forgot to mention ...we got big yard cockroaches in Houston. They get in the house thru the doggy doors and sneak around looking for something to eat. Fortunately, our pup 'Zydico' likes to stalk and eat them. Daughter Heidi says 'it's all protein'

2 cups a load is a lot of vinegar....wonder if that would affect a septic system?

Vinegar is safe for septic systems. In fact, it is recommended as an alternative to harsher chemicals such as bleach and detergents that do cause damage.

I had the same question pop into my mind--but then when you look at 2 cups in a 1000 gallon septic tank it quickly becomes negligible.

Like I said six years ago, I have really hard water and I still use vinegar in the dishwasher. I just tump in a little before starting it, I'd guess 3/4 cup. I can really see the difference when I don't use it!

Today, my method is corroborated by Fox News! Rinse Here

I wonder if we could enlist a bunch of crop duster pilots to spray Washington DC? It might just clean the place up a bit.

I really dislike the smell of vinegar, Mike, is there any smell left?

Btw, I use Lemi Shine found on the dish soap isle instead of the vinegar even though we have a really good water softener.

There is no smell after the wash. I suspect white vinegar is a whole lot cheaper than the product you are using.
