    Young SBA in Mexico

Back in 1948 whilst a student at the U. of Arizona in Tucson ... on the G.I. Bill @ $50/month, and playing piano at 'Johnny's Outpost' to support my playboy lifestyle , I horse-traded and swindled myself into this great 1937 Packard V-12 touring car - bought from movie star Robert Taylor's ranch for $1200, a fortune in them days. It recently sold for about $200,000+ to a collector, who contacted me for my story on it, plus paid me $200 for the 1948 Arizona license plates which I've had tacked up on the wall of my shop for about 60 years. Anyhoo, I drove this Packard all over Mexico ... you know, wine women (cheap $) and song , parked it on the street, and nobody ever bothered it or me. We used to drive from the border town of Nogales to Guymas, Sonora and camp out on the beach. I doubt if any American could make that trip today and get back in one piece.

Did you run into Jack Kerouac in your travels? I missed the golden days of travel in Mexico but have spoken to people that were there in the day. I missed out on a lot - those days will not be repeated.
