Reports say that Whitney Houston was found dead in her motel room. Still dont know what killed her , but years of drug and alcohol abuse had to have taken its toll on her.

I don't know much about her other than she was a singer...R.I.P......Ben
I wish this meant that I could safely go back into a grocery store without puking my guts out having to choose between starving and being forced to listen to ghetto-yodeling, Barry Manilow style big finish Whitney songs every five minutes, but, alas, her drivel will undoubtedly be re-doubled there because she managed to assume room temperature as if that was somehow a loss.

I looked back and somethin' really nasty is gaining on me.

Whether one liked her or not she had "one" of the greatest/purest voices ever. I liked her early stuff and then hated the Bobby Brown era of her life. Even then the talent was obvious though.
My daughter listened to some music in her mid teens that I couldn't stand but there was some of that crap that the talent was obvious, they just choose to put it out there in a fashion I didn't like.
I'm with you chew!
Ah what the hell; I never expected something like that from you Joe.
Rather it was all about the spin---and for many it was manna--no thought process necessary, no objectivity, no verification with facts readily available--just suck up the spin
Sure you did; you know I have certain passions...music being one.
If Nietzsche from my signature line ☟ had lived in a time inescapable recorded music invaded his life, like ours, he surely would have announced a corollary that "Life with persistent inundation of offensive music is a mistake." Houston's brand of music is both bad and offensive to me, and, most alarmingly, if you shop for your own groceries among other establishments offering piped-in music "for our enjoyment" whether we like it or not, is almost inescapable.
True, the woman had a remarkable instrument, but I dare you to find a single example of its use in which, at the end of the piece, she did not explode into her formulaic maximum volume at maximum pitch. She had all the subtlety of a Caterpillar D-9 or a diving Stuka complete with a similar sound, and felt the necessity to further embellish it by adding as many utterances as possible to every word she conjures in a miasma of melisma. She spawned a sub-genre of similar divas such as Mariah Carey each trying to out-belt and out-yodel each other. One down...about fifty to go.

Joe does have a point, they have all tried to out do each other with added syllables to songs. The Star Spangled Banner takes about 10 minutes to sing at the start of a ball game any more.
While I don't recall ever listening to her, more than inadvertantly and not by choice, and then only until I could flip the dial or GTF out of the place, I, without bothering to quote Waco, tend to agree with him 100%. I am a pianist and currently accompany a top-notch soprano gal who sings, and sings well, everything from classic jazz thru 'pops' thru light opera - all without resorting to screeching and yodeling and extraneous theatric gimmics.![]()

I'm a real hick in the sticks, because when it came on the news I had no idea who it was.

Point taken Joe.

I'll have to agree with Joe on this. She needed one of these ->![]()
