Members of the Muslim community and neighbours in St. Leonard expressed relief and anger after the verdict in the Shafia trial came down Sunday.

Mohammad Shafia, 58, his wife Tooba Yahya, 42, and their son Hamed, 21, were each found guilty of four counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Shafia's three teenaged daughters and his first wife.

The verdicts carry an automatic life sentence with no chance of parole for 25 years...Prosecutors offered evidence that the women were already dead when their car was pushed into the water......Ben

I agree......But, it's their country, not ours...We shouldn't try to tell them what to do anymore than they should tell us...Who knows, maybe some jailhouse justice will visit them......Ben

Now, now, guys...that jury was just being soooo judgmental...we all know honor killings are culturally blessed events and Allah is pleased with his servants' supplications punishing transgressors and deniers of proper male domination. They should be returned to Afghanistan where they can live happily & honorably ever-after.

If not let me add. No we don't have the death penelty in Canada - TOO BAD I say is some cases, but it is what it is.

A life sentence with NO CHANCE for parole is just that A LIFE sentence. That anyone may APPLY for parole after 25 years is beside the point, the likelyhood of this bunch getting it is slim, even if they WERE granted parole they would be extridited back to Afganastan immediatley.

To a 58 y/o child killer his life and his son's would be suspect in prison - to last 25 years will be a test.

Sometimes it takes a "Watershed" case to bring out the evil in some and bare it for public scrutiney - this is such a case.

Unfortunatley, we have wierdo's and nut cases from all religions and walks of life both north& south of our borders.

This case was delt with swiftly & justly. The real loosers are unfortunatly are the three young lives and an unwanted wife that suffered from a twisted belief of so-called "honour".

I think it might have been Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who was the General Counsel for the ACLU from 1973-1980. She was nominated by Clinton and took office in 1993. I think she said something like the Supremes should consider some of the the laws of foreign Countries in making their decisions.

And here I always was under the impression that the the main SCOTUS job was to make SURE all laws passed (mostly by the Congress) were within the directives of the U.S. Constitution. They were meant to be one of the 3 parts of the Federal Government----each to keep an eye on the other two

I was not trying to tell them what to do just voicing my displeasure with these killers getting to live out their lives when 4 young girls were Murdered...

Maybe we can see the importance of TEACHING from the home as well a the school. From the very beginning the wee tads are soaking up info by watching and listening at home. From there to school where Islam is THE ONLY thing taught...........NOTHING allowed about the rest of the world. Islam is really all they know and learn for at least the first 18 years. Gets pretty well ingrained and hard to counter.
