I also became acquainted with PP&M in the mid sixties and did not listen to them through any political filter...I just liked their music and so did most everyone in my barracks...I knew a lot of their songs were concerned with the peace movement, but it didn't matter as much as it did with the other singers of the time...I still have much of their music that I transferred to reel-to-reel tape 45 years ago......Ben

Interesting similarity in thought regarding them.

I have a lot of their music now on CD.

Many of that group were seemingly "good" people--the kinds of people that I would be proud to call my friends. Pete Seeger BTW just turned 92 about a month ago

It was only lately that I became aware that Paul Stookey wrote the "Wedding Song" for the occasion of Peter's wedding--at Peter's request. Paul was also raised a Buddhist--I'm not sure when he converted to Christianity.

I did too, along with hundreds of others...Unfortunately they disappeared about the same time as my evil ex-wife...They probably went for two for a dollar in some garage sale......Ben

I had a lot of my treasured old phonograph records thrown away after a past house was flooded. I still regret that from time to time. Several of those old recordings I grew up loving have never been reissued on CD. Some that did make the recovery from the flood and still in my possession also are unique in the sense that they have not been reissued either. A few months ago I found an easy converter at Costco for a cheap price of the phono tracks to digital form in my computer. The process is cumbersome but effective. Interestingly, the digital transcription process copies the analog phono with a bit rate twice the standard WAV encode. I even saw a request for one of the tracks I converted in a discussion of one of my favorite artists (Laurindo Almeida) when another fan mentioned he knew that Almeida had transcribed Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata (first movement) for guitar, but could not find it now. If I ever learn how to submit pieces to YouTube, I would post his request. The "ticks and pops" still bother me though.

Joe, if your computer has any version of Windows, MovieMaker is simple to operate and easy to upload...In YouTube, put "Windows Movie Maker" in the search window and you'll find plenty of tutorials..."WacoJoe Classic Audio Productions" has a nice ring to it......Ben

'Maurice Ravel) Bolero - Sungha Jung ' is one of the very few real talented guitar players. Today we have a rash of crappy-voiced inept untalented guitar strummers playing pure garbage.

Redbone is great. He chords on the guitar very precisely in good music style - with augmented, diminished, 7th and 6th chords, chords that lead to the next chord. Most of the current slock guitar player just know the 'major' chords in the key they're playing.

Here is something a little different. Mike, a friend of ours Keith Davis (Islandpiper) built this violin in 2004 and sold it to a young man from Mexico in 2005. He has played the violin in the National Symphony of Mexico and in some European venues. The young man's father sent this three year old video to Keith.

If, like me, you've never attended a live performance of his, it looks like it's too late...His own website has this statement:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Leon Redbone, the legendary folk/jazz/roots performer has retired from both public appearances and recording. 5/19/15
Wikipedia lists health reasons for his retirement...I remember seeing him several times on Johnny Carson's late night show where he was an infrequent guest...YouTube has most of those appearances...

I've always liked his rendition of "Polly Wolly Doodle All Day"......Ben

Other than the <ahem> obvious reasons to enjoy the Country Sisters rendition of "Corron Eyed Joe," it may be noted that this country music group is based in the Czech Republic, and has been performing as a group since 1989 bridging the Iron Curtain one redneck at a time......Ben

I had not heard Boney James before. He is as smooth as the "Butter" in the tune you posted, Dave. Thanks for the intro...reminds me a bit of the late Grover Washington, Jr., and that's high praise.

It took me decades to learn to appreciate the saxophone after being attacked in my early years by a steady diet of the atrocious Boots Randolph's Yackety Sax and the like...aaarrrggghhh! I finally got out of that hang-up attending numerous local gigs in Houston of a sax player there named Kirk Whalum. Like you, being there enhances the musical experience so much with any muscian, but jazz especially for me. I especially love me lots of soprano sax. That instrument can be so plaintive, almost in between a clarinet and an oboe.

Here's a great sax player you might like. Not quite as smooth as Boney, but not too jazzy in this tune like Ornette Coleman or "The Bird," neither of which I understand. Wayne Shorter, Apache

Very nice---and I have the same feelings about the soprano sax

Here is another for you. I have to confess--I saw Joe sample in concert at least twice, I have some of his CD's and until I just went to youtube I didn't realize his race

Sadly Mr. Sample isn't with us anymore--he went to the big concert
