Of course the Chieftains by themselves were never slouches...

In a most unlikely collaboration, the Chieftains backed up the Rolling Stones' Mick Jagger on this rendition of the Lefty Frizzell classic, "Long Black Veil"...

My wife and I went to a concert last year of trumpeter, Chris Botti. It was one of the best concert we have ever attended. I like many kinds of music, but instrumental music by a master of an instrument is a particular favorite of mine. My being an old horn player, the rare opportunity to have an entire concert fronted by a trumpet player, is indeed a treat.
As it has turned out, my wife contracted a rare auto-immune disease shortly after the concert, the treatment of which leaves her unprotected from infections, and the effects of which make it imperative she stay out of crowds ending her attending any more concert ever. At least her last live concert was a terrific and memorable event.
Botti has several dvd's out, and I think we have them all.

I sing duets with Emmylou all the time and with many others. They never voice complaints...but my wife does.

Like Ben, I also ended up at watching Emmylou after starting on the Alison link..
Emmylou was a local girl, folk singer who branched out and then stopped being local..

I offer possibly an introduction to Boney James.
We saw him again last night---I think this is either the third or forth time. Last night was his best. He connected with the audience in a visceral way--and vice versa. One of the things about jazz concerts is that the audiences are most always dominated by blacks and that adds an entirely different dynamic to the experience---there is little that holds them back from expressing their involvement with the music---and it is contagious---even to reticent old white folk. I think I embarrass my wife at times--but she tolerates me in any event.
I hope you can enjoy a little good jazz

Excellent---thank you
My granddaughter is studying the violin---it is the one check I write each month with a smile on my face
The other thing that post prompted me to do was to complete my membership renewal to our local PBS station. Last Sunday evening we watched a concert by three siblings, the Hsu family who are all students at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia which is arguably the finest such institution in the country.
The recital begins at about 11 min but the introduction is interesting as well.

Other than the <ahem> obvious reasons to enjoy the Country Sisters rendition of "Corron Eyed Joe," it may be noted that this country music group is based in the Czech Republic, and has been performing as a group since 1989 bridging the Iron Curtain one redneck at a time......Ben
