This song came up on my YouTube screen while listening to Dave’s offering of the Orbison piece. I like Josh Groban’s pure voice. It is almost too perfect and this rendition of Don McClean’s “Vincent” is excellent.

I have to agree--his voice is seemingly perfect and immediately recognizable when one of his pieces come on. I cannot help but add the additional honor that he does all of that with no drama--he is just Josh

During our recent holiday we had the great pleasure of attending a concert of the Vienna Chamber Orchestra. Here is a single video that touches many of the loves of my life.

All in one here are Chamber Orchestra, the violin, fantastic score---and lovely ladies----doesn't get better than that

Today I am allowing YouTube to take me where it wants...with a few exceptions.

Here is just one of those songs that takes me back in a very pleasant way to my earlier days.

Moon River has long been at the top of my list of favorites---it is nested in wonderful memories of my youth and dark smokey clubs, dancing with my girl, almost without moving.

This version introduces an entirely different (and new to me) quality.
It is Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton. Eric Clapton is a excellent guitarist, but in this case the gold ring goes to Jeff Beck---who is responsible for the tones that seem to be a guitar singing---fabulous! I think Eric Clapton was so taken he missed the cue to begin singing.

Now ya gone and done it, Dave, you sent me off for a couple of hours following the right side of the YouTube screen where their algorithm sent me. Look what I came back with — Lightnin’ Hopkins billed as “Possibly The Best Blues Performance Ever.” That May be a bit hyperbolic, but then again maybe not.

More pursuing turned up this Clapton favorite, but the break at the end had the keyboard player using some digital thingie that imitated a saxophone wonderfully. I had never seen it used before and wonder if it can imitate other solo instruments too. I’ve seen a mouthpiece variation used with a guitar that has a different but equally arresting sound, but never with a keyboard. Anybody know more about this “instrument?”

My guess is that it is some form of a Melodica: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melodica

I am going to send this to my friend who is deeply into music of all sorts--- if she doesn't know I will bother John Clayton.

As for the Blues---I like blues in measured amounts and not of the hard core--- that was hard core.

The gizmo with the guitar to which I referred is known as a “Talk Box,” as heard below on Joe Walsh’ “Rocky Mountain Way” —

    https://youtu.be/mpRUndRr7AI

I suspect the setup I queried about in Clapton’s band by the keyboardist is some kind of amalgamation of the Talk Box playing a MiDi sound controlled by a keyboard, but just a guess. If so, the sound could as easily have been a trumpet or a flute, which intrigues me greatly. I have often envisioned a similar app that could use a MiDi setup to do the same or similar with a microphone and a person whistling to transpose & reproduce the sound of various instruments. I dream of this, as I am one of the world’s great whistlers, and though few can whistle with any dexterity or musicality, there are a few who could make use of such an app and there would soon be more if such were available. My father always said to me pointedly, “Son, the world hates a whistler!” But, if it could be changed to the sound of better instruments, maybe not so much.

Have you ever heard Bobbie McFerrin whistle?

I am familiar with that tune. He’s pretty good. Sammie Davis Junior was good too. By far the best I ever heard was some nameless fellow in a Cirque Du Soleil show I saw once. That guy was the impresario of whistling...a positive master of the lips.
