The name on the photo is also the "official" name of the particular path on this slide zone.

The reason of course is because of the topography that results in the slide exploding on the way down.

And when the guys are done "shooting slides," they go hunting for a little relaxation.

I guess you couldn't really see the scale so, I drew a line where the tracks are in this photo.

    Great shots

Yes, it is about halfway between Girdwood and Portage and uses sound waves.

Cool stuff, AK. Seems like a flame-thrower would be a good way to clear those tracks.

I'm going to have to plead "old-timers" disease on this one Dave as I forgot that the "blaster boxes" don't actually use sound. In the initial stages we looked at doing that but, it wasn't very practical.

These blaster boxes actually shoot charges and have to be reloaded after firing.

I e-mailed my old avalanche tech and he also told me that we weren't the first in North America to have the actual blaster boxes (Telluride beat us to it) but, we were the first to have a slide detection system that was part of the entire system.

    Sorry about the incorrect info.

    Even better than a flame-thrower.

    Fuel mileage sucks though.
